We enjoyed our stay at this establishment very much. Although it has a plain exterior, the inside is very nice and very well kept. Tom B is the "chief cook and bottle washer" and provides valuable information, a friendly atmosphere, and great food in addition to a clean and comfortable room. The Royal Mile is only a 10 minute walk on level ground so is quite accessable. You can also catch a city bus nearby if walking is a challenge.

We really enjoyed our stay with Tom. He met us when we got there after a very long flight and made us feel right at home. We had an excellent breakfast the next morning and Tom gave us great advice on what to see and do. The room was very clean and comfortable and quiet! It was a pleasant 10 minute walk to the Royal Mile.

We stayed at the Belford Guest House in Edinburgh for five days at the end of August 2011. On the negative side, the Guest House is a long, long walk from the city center, but close to a bus stop. The bus will take you quickly into the center at a cost of 1.30 British pounds, exact change required. Much more convenient bus tickets can be purchased in town. However, the place is claustrophobic, with no public spaces, a steep staircase leading to the three tiny guest rooms. Our room had no extra space, and two narrow beds, with a bathroom for our exclusive use off the landing, a small window that banged one night in the wind. The owner was abrupt and perhaps weary after a long summer of tourists. On the positive side, the place is less expensive than more luxury in a better location, and basically clean and equipped with the minimum. The guest house isn't far from a few good restaurants and the owner serves a good breakfast. The building itself is handsome and on a quiet, pretty street. Nevertheless, next time we stay in Edinburgh, I'm going to spend more for a more convenient location and more luxuries.

Room Tip: I'm sure the best room is the one facing the front with its own en-suite bathroom.

Tom is a first-rate host, gives lots of local advice, and is very pleasant to chat with over breakfast. The rooms are comfortable and the house is about a 20min walk from the Royal Mile and a 10min walk from the park with Arthur's Seat which means that it is nice and quiet but not too far. Alternatively, you could easily take the local bus into the center of town. A lack of a common room is offset by the many pubs in the neighborhood.

This was a great B and B for our first three nights in Scotland. The location was perfect, a lovely residental neighborhood a short bus ride or walk to the center of Edinburgh. Our room was lovely, clean and spacious and breakfast was delicious. Tom was a very helpful and gracious host.

Just got back from visiting the Edinburgh Tatoo and stayed here for a couple of nights. The Belford is about 1.5 miles out of town, nice and queit location with its own parking, a great bonus. Rooms basic but nioce, TV (no freeview) ensuite with a double and single (Rm3). Best nights sleep for ages, the ebds are so comfortable and no noise to keep you awake. Breakfast was traditional, choice of cornflakes, museli or bran, followed by traditional Scottish, cooked to your liking. with buses to Edinburgh five minutes walk away, all in all, a really nice, handy guest house that meets the basic needs.
