I was cold and tired and stepped by chance into this Scottish Gem of a cafe and I am so glad that I did, seriously the best food I had in the UK. The owners are lovely making you feel immediately at home as they serve me steaming chicken and lentil soup with warm crusty bread. The soup was so good, I thought I would try a coffee (having struggled to find good coffee that was strong like we drink in Australia). The coffee was equally spectacular and I couldn't resist the the rhubarb cake, which was incredible, this from someone who doesn't even like cake. A must visit for lunch or breakfast on a trip to Edinburgh

Gorgeous cakes and artisan roast coffee with cheery staff and fresh decor. We sat on the comfy window seat and there was fitting background music. Although we love artisan roast coffee it made a nice change to have our favourite coffee in a different cafe. And you get a loyalty card...brilliant!

We were recommended this place by our hotel concierge, and its surprisingly unassuming location and entryway do not begin to reveal how incredible the food is. The meals catch you by surprise with their new and surprising combinations which are subtle and delicious, and the staff are some of the friendliest people we met in Edinburgh. We ate here on our first day in Edinburgh and found ourselves going back again and again for a quick snack. Their fresh ingredients and terrific selection will make you wish it was around the corner from your house. Their chickpea quiche and brownies were particularly incredible. Unassuming and simple, you will want to come back over and over for their fresh and wonderful food and salads, breads that make your mouth water and combinations that are one of a kind.

We stopped off here for lunch with our two small boys after a morning at the National Museum of Scotland. Despite a double buggy to accommodate, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming ... and the sandwiches couldn't have been better. Both my husband and I had the hot roast smoked salmon - one on granary, one on soda bread. We would thoroughly recommend them both. If you are looking for somewhere with some rustic charm (and it is quite rustic), great food and a relaxed and welcoming vibe, this is the place for you.
