“Most Excellent”

I booked Indaba for 3 of us for 18:30 but had to change the booking 2 days before to 20:30 - this was not a problem and the staff were only to pleased to be of help.
A small and unassuming restaurant in a side street of Tollcross, the outside gives no indications to the wonderful food and service that awaits the diners inside. Our waitress was very knowledgable and guided us through the ecclectic mix of Spanish, South African and South American tapas. Although advised to select 7 tapas for our party of 3, we elected to order 9 including an ostrich steak from the 'specials' board. Other dishes that we ordered (and would wholeheartedly recommend) were peeled prawns in a spicy tomato sauce, Boerewor sausage, filet of seabass, goats cheese with caramelised onions and the most amazing succulent ribs amongst other tapas and a plate of complimetary bread. This was washed down with a South African pinotage which was an excellent and reasonably priced wine and went very well with our food. Our waiter always ensured that our water glasses were kept full which was a reflection of the high quality of service that we received throughout the evening. For dessert, we chose 3 different sweets each from a very good selection and each and every one were to die for - these included Plum & Blackcurrant Sorbet, Crying cake, Watermelon & Mint Sorbet, Coffee and nut icecream and a very light strawberry cheesecake. To finish off we had a decaf coffee, cappucino and an esspresso which rounded off this superb meal very nicely along with a complimentary shot of vodka with mango and orange juices.
Every aspect of this dining experience was excellent and very reasonably priced. We would not hesitate in recommending this restaurant and would be more than happy to visit it again and again and again..........

“Simply great food in unpretentious surroundings”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

I'm a local and have been visiting Indaba at least 3 or 4 times a year every since it opened. It has become one of my favourite eateries in Edinburgh. It's very good value for money and has a great, completely unpretentious atmosphere. In addition to their standard menu, they're always ringing the changes with new dishes on the blackboard, so there's always something new to try each time. And the 'crying cake' is to die for!
My only fear is that by telling everyone about how good they are, they'll become so popular that they'll have to move to bigger premises in a different part of town!

“Tasty Tapas”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

This hidden gem is a busy restaurant. The staff explained the menu very well and were patient in doing so. The portions were very generous to share between 3 adults and very filling. The food was delicious and original and the menu included lots of interesting choices; we felt that we were spoiled for choice and would have liked to order everything to sample! The only flaw was that we had to wait approximately 30 minutes for our table despite having reserved a table.

“Relaxed place, very enjoyable”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

A first time visit and very good for this style of eating. Interesting variety of tapas with different influences from just the usual Spanish. On reflection, our only mistake was probably sticking to the dishes we knew which were fine but should have shown more adventure. Excellent Gambas Pil Pil though. Will definitely visit again and having seen the Antelope Steak and the Haggis with Spinach and Pine Nuts at other tables they're on radar. Service very friendly and efficient and not intrusive. A nice relaxed atmosphere and nice to have Chef visiting tables checking all ok and discussing dishes. Good value as well.

“Every dish was delicious”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

The staff were very helpful in explaining the dishes, the specials and how much to order, making sure we were happy. A lot of things on the menu were gluten free which is nice.

Every dish they brought was just absolutely delicious. Honestly I couldn't fault a single thing. The croquettes and 'crying cake' (oozing with chocolate sauce inside) were particularly wonderful. I can't recommend this place highly enough, absolutely excellent! I will be going back as soon as possible.
