“clean and fresh”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

I stayed here for 3 nights and have prevoiusly stayed in other travelodge's. It was clean and spacious. They came round every morning to clean and put in clean coffee cups and plastic glasses and more coffee, sugar and milk. they have hairdryers at reception you can borrow for the stay. The only thing i didnt like was no free wi-fi, it was expensive, £5 per hour or £20 a day, couldnt get on any other wi-fi networks so they must block it somehow. Its a short walk to the bus station, everything is so near by. They dont do breakfasts but there is a fab cafe called Snax round the corner.

Room Tip: ive only stayed once in 1 room so i couldnt give a tip on choosing a good room but i was on floor -2...

We arrived by train and were pleasantly surprised by the proximity to the Waverley Station. There was a local shop nearby to purchase essentials. The room was compact but very clean and the control worked on the room radiator.

We moved here after being transferred from Travelodge Queen Street, due to experiencing problems with their disabled entrance into the hotel.

This hotel has just undergone a complete make-over. Check-in was swift and simple. We were allocated a room, and left our luggage with the friendly receptionist (check-in is at 15:00)

Reception is small, but has a couple of hot drink and food/beverage machines.

Room: 306 - disabled room
This is on the top floor, accessed via two small lifts, through a fire door and first on the left.

The room is large enough (not massive) for a scooter and two people. The room was cleanish - there was still dust and a pubic hair on the Travelodge infamous light-headboard, but the bed was extremely comfortable even though the bed was a twin converted. The bathroom was ok, but the toilet was about 30cm off the floor - which would cause problems for most abled people, not alone disabled people. There was an accessible shower, and sink. Two towels, and one hand towel (no floor towel) provided. There was also a large amount of dust in the bathroom, especially on the pipes.

Noise: considering we were on the front of the hotel, the room was very quiet (except on the second night when we were kept awake by kids playing and screaming - throughout the night; but that's not Travelodge's fault!)

I managed to get in and out of the hotel fine on my own, but it was easier with my fiancé.

One complaint - when we checked out after four trouble-free nights, I asked the receptionist whether I could leave my broken-down scooter in reception for two hours until our train - she was not only rude, and unhelpful, but discriminatory in her actions. I believe her name is Kelly MacDonald.

Meals
Although you can buy the usual box of continental breakfast on check-in, I really wouldn't bother, there is a wonderful Cafe next door called Pep and Fodder who serve lovely cooked/cold/takeaway or eat in breakfasts.

Cleanliness:
In the four days we stayed we had a few problems, where the room wasn't serviced until very late in the afternoon (after 16:30); and where were weren't provided with towels; soap, new tea/coffee/sugar/milk etc. But reception will gladly provide these for you when asked. Our sheets weren't changed during our stay either - something that I would prefer. I think next time I'll make four separate bookings, so that they have to service the room fully!

TV
Reception was ok, and we received about 10-15 channels. However, Travelodge have locked the ability to make the TV brighter/dimmer etc. Our TV was very dark, but since we weren't bothered (I mean, we were in Edinburgh - there's too much to see and do to watch TV!!), we didn't ask for it to be changed.

Area:
In the best part of town for tourists wishing to do old town, which is relatively close (just over North Bridge). There are many restaurants (of all price brackets) around.

Mobility
Please also note, that the Lothian Mobility truck, that rents out mobility scooters to those in need, parks right outside this hotel between 10:00 and 16:00. Rather handy when my scooter broke down. A fabulous service, provided by a wonderful man!

I would definitely stay again, just for the area.

Room Tip: Top floor front/back - Room 306 for a disabled room

If you stay here, insist on a room at the back; the amount of street noise is amazing. You have to close the double glazing and, in the absence of air conditioning, roast! Otherwise it is not bad - but there no restaurant, even for breakfast.

We chosen this hotel as it is close-by Waverley Station for our last night in Edinburgh. The first receptionist was nice and friendly to us. We gotten a large twin room, however this room left a horror and traumatic experience. Weird noises coming out from the toilet during midnight and the room heater wasn't working properly. It was cold and the noise was getting to creep us out. We decided to head down immediately with all our luggage to the reception desk to change room. The second receptionist was reluctant to change for us since there were no more twin room. We told him that we were fine with a double bed and if he continue to doubt us, he can go find out the noise by himself. We finally gotten a double bedroom which left a better impression. But still, we were quite shaken up by the whole experience.

This hotel was great value, it was in a great location just a couple of steps to take you onto Princes Street which leads to shops and the train station. The hotel itself was super with the rooms being spacious and having everything you needed. I would definitely come back here again and would recommend it to people.

This was a mini break for my Mum and I and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very central to everything we wanted to do and near the station as well. We will most certainly be using this again. Thank you Travelodge Edinburgh!
