Owner description: A mighty fortress, the defender of the nation, and a world-famous visitor attraction - Edinburgh Castle has dominated the skyline for centuries. And the high volcanic rock on which it stands has been occupied for thousands of years. Today it is home to Scotland's crown jewels, three military museums, the Scottish National War Memorial, the Prisons of War exhibition, and much more. The castle offers a fabulous day out - an experience not to be missed.

“a great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

There's plenty to see at the castle and your admission ticket includes a guided tour. You can also choose to just wander around by yourself. If you get a chance, have the afternoon tea in the tearoom, it's a little pricey, but very good

“Military Tattoo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

A must to see in the month of August every year. This year's theme is the "Scot's homecoming". The show lasted 2 hours and it was so nice everyone in my box enjoyed it so much, no one stood up during the performance. The stewards are so efficient that despite there's only one main exit the people left the ground safely. It is not cheap to buy tickets but I'm recommending it to a"bucket list"!

“Purchase tickets in advance and buy the audio tour- well worth it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

I've lived in Europe a while and been through many castles, but the Edinburgh castle is a must see. First, buy your tickets online ahead of time, you can walk right in and be the first on site when they open at 9:30. The views alone are spectacular, but there are so many buildings to see and explore including the Crown Jewels of Scotland! I highly recommend purchasing the self guided audio tour for a few Euro, it has a lot of information but gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace.

“It's exactly what you'd expect ”

As people have previously mentioned, one of the best things you'll get from a visit here is a great view of Edinburgh. The castle itself is not amazing compared to others in the UK and Europe, but it's certainly worth a look
