Owner description: Edinburgh Castle is a world famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. It was recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction. This most famous of Scottish castles has a complex building history. The oldest part, St Margaret's Chapel, dates from the 12th century; the Great Hall was erected by James IV around 1510; the Half Moon Battery by the Regent Morton in the late 16th century; and the Scottish National War Memorial after the First World War. The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O' Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.

We loved our visit. We have seen a few castles in our Scotland visit, but this is well preserved and well signed. We didn’t take the audio tour and the signage was sufficient information. A perfect day certainly helped!

A huge area covering different section of an old castle carrying so many memories. The castle is well maintained with guards doing honours and a splendid museum inside. The tower of rare gem stones is also an added attraction.

The Edinburgh castle is an amazing sight to see, what's more, the military still use parts of the castle. The two most fascinating attractions for me were, the jewels, crown and staff as well as St Margret's Chapel, which is the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh. It is believed to be built during the reign of David I 1124–1153. The castle as a whole is wonderfully taken care of and brings a lot of tourists. I would love to go back in August one year to see the military tattoos performed by British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and international military bands and artistic performance teams on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. It's a great place visit but I recommend getting there right when it opens and doing a guided tour.

Very well kept and informative. Worth a visit. The weather was bad when we visited. Prior reservation is recommended.
