Owner description: St Giles’ Cathedral is the historic City Church of Edinburgh. With its famed crown spire it stands on the Royal Mile between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, it is the Mother Church of Presbyterianism and contains the Chapel of the Order of the Thistle (Scotland’s chivalric company of knights headed by the Queen). Please do not book any tours through TripAdvisor, as they are not endorsed by the cathedral.

St Giles is a great example of protestant religious architecture, with beautiful masonry and sculpture throughout and an amazing blue starred ceiling. The attraction well balances its roles as an employed place of worship, and tourist hotspot.

The cathedral is free to look around and you can pay a small fee to take pictures. The inside takes your breath away. The stained glass is gorgeous. It is definitely worth an hour or so look about. It is located right on the Royal Mile - not far from the Castle.

Beautiful cathedral on the Royal Mile. Easy to spot. The architecture is beautiful and it centers the Royal Mile. Still a working church and you can attend services. We didn't but we did enjoy going in and having a look around.

Great history to the place. Loves the little chapel. Don't forget to look up. Great info from the docents.

In comparison with some of the European monsters, this is a small affair, but it has seen a lot more action. Plenty of important event occurred in or around this building, which is very old, and still in good condition. Worth an hour, just to say you've been in.
