Informative about development of New Town side of Edinburgh. Rooms were staffed by enthusiastic guides. Good value, but would be better if whole house was opened

This historic property in Charlotte Square Edinburgh at the end of George Street is pure gem. A National Trust Scotland property which is steeped in history. A must to visit.

The Georgian House is part of the north façade of Charlotte square, designed by Adam as a fitting cornerstone to the New Town. It gives a wonderful insight into the lives of those above and below stairs. The orientation video (shown in the basement) sets the building in its historical and social context and is essential to get the most out of your visit.

The four floors have been largely restored to their original classical décor and there are helpful hand-held boards to inform you. There are also guides on hand to answer any questions and they were very helpful.

This is a must-do for anyone with an interest in history or architecture.

Loved my visit to this beautiful Georgian house next door to the first ministers house. Set over four floors it gives you an insight as to how life was in these elegant times. Staff are very informative and helpful and written information in every room in various languages. Well worth a visit.

As a national trust member it was useful to know that we have reciprocal arrangements for the national trust for Scotland. This property is quietly impressive. It is located at the Charlotte Square end of George Street. This end of Edinburgh is overlooked in many respects but if you want to visit something elegant and charming this is the place to go. It is beautifully preserved and the staff love the place they work in. There is an introductory film at the beginning, which give the visitor an idea of the place they are visiting. The kitchen is a gem and it is interesting to see all the equipment on show. The rest of the house is well presented and the staff are very knowledgeable. They are always happy to answer questions about the various items in the house. Lots of the items are on loan so there is no photography. The staff were lovely to talk to and there was always a story to discuss about an item in the house. There are lots of paintings by Raeburn and there are very beautiful pieces of furniture. There is a very unusual music box. The bedroom is downstairs, which is apparently an Edinburgh quirk in Georgian times were visitors would be greeted!! The gift shop is quaint and located on the ground floor. It is well stocked with gifts. Definitely worth a visit.
