“Great for a night chatting with friends”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2012

The basement bar of The Traverse theatre has been a great place for a night with friends - we've been going for something like 20 years. good selection of drinks, average (for Edinburgh) prices, good bar snacks/meals and usually interesting art or photography on display. If there is a busy show on at The Traverse theatre itself, then be prepared for a real crush before and after the show and during the intermission.

“Underwhelming theatre cafe”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2012

The Traverse plays are often world class, but the same can not be said for its restaurant. The menu is limited and dull, the sevice slow, and the cafe space sticks with the 'dull' theme. Dark, dingy and uncomfortable.

“Great theatre with a great Bar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2012

This is the place to go in Edinburgh for cutting edge theatre - there is nearly always something going on, and it's always interesting. Go to their website for details.
The bar is also one of the best in town - good beer and wine at decent prices, excellent snacks and an inviting atmosphere. There is no loud music, there are different sorts of seats available, from cosy alcoves to comfy sofas, and you don't need to go to the theatre to use the bar.

“Great theatre and brilliant staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2012

The Traverse always has great theatre performances. Visited last week and saw 'For Once' a play directed by the new artistic director, really good and brilliant performances from the 3 cast members. The bar was buzzy and if you want to see new work in Edinburgh it is the only place to go. The website will give you an idea of what is on and the Play, Pie & Pint series gives you a chance to see a quick but interesting show at lunchtime.

“Different & great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2012

Been here for theatre & drinks before, which we've really enjoyed. They have a great selection of often unusual shows. The theatres themselves are also quite unusual with a very steep rake of seats, but it does ensure everyone gets a good view. They serve good beer as well & there's a great selection of snacks.
We've been back separately to eat, having enjoyed the snacks. Food is plentiful, well cooked & very tasty - staff were courteous and helpful.
All in all, this is a great venue with really good value eats & drinks - highly recommended.
