Not my best Waldorf Astoria experience. After staying at the Cavalieri in Rome and Trianon Palace in Versailles, expectations were high. The Caledonian did not fully live up to these expectations. It almost felt like staying at a normal Hilton with the appearance of a Waldorf Astoria.
Staff at the reception area was excellent, yet some of the catering staff was unexperienced and not always very attentive. Breakfast quality was good, yet the offering is modest. Not what you expect from a Waldorf Astoria.
Little extra's were offered in the room. Only 2 free bottles of water for the entire 3-day stay and only a few available towels with no re-stocking in the afternoon (unlike in Rome or Versailles, where this is done standard).
The upside of this hotel is its central location, the size of the rooms and the view... Take a castle view room for magnificent outlook onto the castle, the city center and even the sea. I would definitely stay here again on a next trip, but would recommend the hotel manager to further improve the 'pampering experience' of the guests.More
