My husband and I have stayed at the Caledonian Hotel on numerous occasions over the years and it never fails to disappoint. From the beautiful and comfortable bedrooms to the amazing location right on Princes Street, we just love this hotel. The staff always greet you when you walk past and check-in/out is always quick. The bar area and the new lounge are very relaxing and we love what was done with them during last year's renovation. My top tips are to make sure that you have a high tea in the Pompadour Restaurant (taking in the castle view) and take time to try out the comfiest dressing gowns ever (found in your wardrobe)! Can't wait until our next trip.

Went with a friend to the Caledonian for Afternoon Tea and we absolutely loved it.

The service was superb, lovely friendly staff - a reminder of what quality service really is all about in an all too fast modern world. The sandwiches were really good, whereas the cakes and pastries were delicious. Tea wise, I had a Chinese black tea with a hint of smokiness whilst my friend raved on about how good her green tea was (apparently with a lovely nutty flavour).

This hotel has no idea what they are doing. The shower was broken and they failed to present an acceptable solution or resolution. Great place to stay if you like staying in hostels! Couldn't have been more displeased with the complete lack of attention to detail- or even major issues.

Great location near Edinburgh castle ( we paid for the upgraded castle view). The hotel staff was very attentive to us, and the only disappointment were the beds, very hard mattresses left us not waking up refreshed. Morning Scottish breakfast was great and the wait staff at breakfast treated us wonderfully. Concierge was great at giving us ideas to make the most of our days there. (2 days)

Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent stay at The Caledonian, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel. I am pleased overall you had an excellent stay with us, in particular the attentive service delivered by our concierge and breakfast teams. I am sorry to hear you found the mattresses hard, this is most unusual to hear of, many of our guests comment on the beds being extremely comfortable. I hope we have the opportunity of welcoming you back in the near future.

From arrival, we were greeted by the guest relations Manager Chris who kindly assisted us with our luggage to our "castle view" room with two double beds. This was perfect for two best friends enjoying a luxury weekend away.. Room and bathroom was fantastic and luxurious with egyptian cotton sheets and those famous Waldorf beds- fabulous nights sleep. Just love staying in Waldorf's!... Peacock Alley had a feeling of New York, food in Brasserie for dinner was exceptional and cocktails in Bar were a real treat. Would definately recommend for couples/friends and families and have stayed several times on business too. Looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Castle View a must

I recently stayed here for one night with my boyfriend, it was fantastic. The rooms are beautiful, although some may not have the best views (we can't have it all) the room was very comfy, bathroom was gorgeous and came with an espresso machine. We ate in the Galvin Brasserie at night which was delicious, great service from the waiters too. The breakfast in the morning I also couldn't fault, a lot of selection and I'm a sucker for some fresh baked pastries (you can always tell if they have been fresh baked) Also superb service from our waiter, couldn't do more to make sure we were happy. Overall great service, pity every room can't overlook the castle though.

The hotel is very nice, and, more importantly, very well located. Rooms are a bit too small. Good value for money? Not sure. Breakfast was not included in my package and needed to check out by 12. Staff at reception was super accommodating.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
