The service was outstanding. A special thank you to Malcolm at front desk.

Asked for a view of the castle, got a view worthy of a post card.

The food was great. They will serve a gluten free Tea with advanced notice. I was thrilled with the Tea, more food then I could consume. The hotel is very sensitive to special diets. Excellent service staff in all areas.

Not one thing disappointed.

Great area for drinking, dining and shopping, not to mention the historic sites.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the castle, well worth it. We stayed on second floor, good location to view the c...

The Caledonian Hotel was a fabulous place to stay with all staff going the extra mile to be of service. All facilities were top class. We were very impressed when the waiter sent over the sommelier to help with the selection of the wine which proved to be an excellent choice with our chosen meal.

What sets this hotel apart is the level of service that exceeds expectations. Check-in was an amazing experience of meeting someone interested in every detail to make us comfortable in the hotel and to help us with our visit to Scotland. Hospitality at its best! The rooms are impeccable and a wonderful, luxurious place to retreat after sightseeing or a long flight. This was our "landing hotel" in Edinburgh and I highly recommend it! The hop-on, hop-off bus services are convenient to the hotel as are a number of restaurants. Not as close to the famous Royal Mile as I would have liked but the hospitality of this property more than compensated for that. Nothing works like people at the Caledonian who welcome you with warmth, interest, and thoughtful service beyond expectations!

Expansive bar & lobby sitting room for a coffee or cocktail. In town for vacation. I'd skip breakfast here and go across to Ryan's cafe. GREAT people watching there in the morning. The Caledonian is a few blocks away from some nice restaurants. The staff was quick to change out down pillows for foam due to wife's allergies. Staff was helpful in answering all questions concerning recommendations.

My wife and I decided that a 28th wedding anniversary treat would be to have afternoon tea at this hotel. Well, what an experience, , costly, but totally beyond what we expected. The service, presentation, selection and atmosphere can only be described as outstanding. Not something we would do on a regular basis, , ,but as a treat, , very highly recommended

We just had a short weekend break in glorious Edinburgh, and the quality of this hotel made the whole trip really special. The staff at reception are very friendly (thank you Yannic) & helpful and showed us to a charming room with a view of the castle and a very comfy bed. I do think a 3pm check-in time, though not unusual, is a bit late tho…

The hotel is a grand old building so the interiors all seem to have good proportions and an elegant style. The new parts, such as Peacock Alley where we had lunch, are quite grand and tastefully done too. The food was good, tho not as good as the cocktails, and not as good as the Amazing breakfast we had the next day! (I read someone on here complaining that there is no breakfast menu which made it difficult - this is rather unfair as almost everything is on the buffet and you can ask for pretty much anything you want and you'll get it quickly, the staff in the breakfast room were wonderful).

The hotel gave us a great recommendation for dinner (Stac Polly's on Dublin Street), and all in all the whole experience made us fall in love with Edinburgh all over again. Thank you!

Room Tip: Getting a room with a view of the castle is definitely worth it, but if you're a light sleeper b...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
