“Stunning Hotel in Edinburgh!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2014 via mobile

What a great place to stay! Both the bars, The Caley & Peacock Alley, have plenty of charm, the later maintaining some originality from the old train station. Both restaurants are also excellent, breakfast at the brasserie being a defiant highlight, and a meal at the Pompadour just outstanding.
Service throughout the hotel is just top class, staff are extremely helpful & attentive!
As for the rooms, we stayed in the Sir Walter Scott Suite, and it could not be faulted. Very spacious & comfortable, all the amenities you would expect, with a great view of the castle!
Why stay elsewhere in Edinburgh???

Stayed March 2014, travelled as a couple

We stayed here in July when we went to see Tom Jones at the Castle. We were upgraded, which was nice, and our friends got a free bottle of Prosecco as their room was not ready. Had afternoon tea, which was excellent and in copious amounts, but a little pricey. To be honest tea for two would have been enough for four

A very good place to stay. The room was amazing spacious and clean. It is located in a very central place for all activities. You can walk to any place of interest. The members of staff were very helpful, polite and caring. We were able to use the swimming pool and the spa which was very nice. The shops were in good location and the Fringe Festival activities which we went to see was within reach.

Had a wonderful stay at the Caledonian Hotel. I stayed for 1 night during the festival and asked for a room on the top floor that would be quieter as the hotel does face out onto two busy streets - Lothian Road and Princes Streets. Was delighted with the room we were given, excellent spa facilities which we actually had to ourselves! Very friendly and attentive staff. Would definitely recommend.

I stayed here during the Edinburgh Festival with my husband and the service was out of this world. The staff at the hotel couldn't do enough for us. This included a free upgrade, free car parking, a complimentary bottle champagne. Our room service breakfast was 30 mins late and the hotel removed the charge for it as an apology.
The hotel is beautifully furnished and feels luxurious. While it is not the cheapest hotel in Edinburgh I think it is worth every penny we spent.

Room Tip: Twice we've stayed here and been given automatic upgrades without needing to pay extra.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
