“A lasting impressions”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

When you visit any place it is interesting to reflect on what it is/has or does to you that leaves impressions. With New Town there was an abundance of positive memories - the buildings were so elegant, the parks inviting and beautifully kept, the streets spacious and clean, the shopping (if you include Jenners) abundant, the choice of eateries outstanding (together with the ability of the majority of these to deliver what they seemed to promise), the charm of both Rose and Thistle Streets and the Oxford Pub with its ability to conjure up all of the images of DI Rebus. Absorb the whole experience and you will not be sorry for the time spent.

“More than Shops”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

In this area I would recommend a visit to Jenner’s department store, if you love or hate shopping, if only to see the grandeur of what you imagine shops should have looked like.
When you have had enough of the shops, you should head into the new town to find a peaceful area of impressive Georgian terraces, crescents and squares. It is a pleasant stroll to then head to the Water of Leaf Walkway and walk along there, then back to the city.

“New town is lovely!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

New town is a really lovely part of Edinburgh. There are multiple good bars and the such to explore.

I have lived in Edinburgh for almost 5 years, so I have visited this area many times.

“Shopping and Marks and Spencer”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

Once one is finished with the Royal Mile and High Street, head over to see New Town, with shopping malls and the classic Marks and Spencer. Visit the markets along the Princes Street gardens and sit and enjoy the scenery across the gardens (the gardens were the North Locke at one time, a very putrid lake) but has been transformed beautifully. Calton Hill, The Scott Monument are all within walking distance. Many malls if that is your thing.

After visiting Edinburgh for 3 days, I concluded that there are 3 main parts of the city where tourists/visitors concentrate on their visits: OLD TOWN - located up on the hill where they see the Royal Mile, museums, shops, restaurants, Castle, Palace and Parliament.

PRINCES GARDENS - The East and West Sections separate the OLD TOWN from the NEW TOWN.

NEW TOWN - Waverly Train Station, Mall, hotels & shops along Princes Street. There are restaurants and bars located on the streets behind Princes Street such as: Rose Street, George Street, Queen Street, etc. These restaurants offer different types of cuisines.I found a Chinese restaurant over at Rose Street where I ordered my favorite Shrimp Fried Rice.

Unlike the narrow streets and "close" of the Old Town, those of the New Town are wider and in grid. Beautiful Georgian homes are located at this part of the town. Be sure to visit the New Town when you're in Edinburgh!
