This is the place to be if as a tourist you want to get your tours, gifts, clothing purchases, etc. plus a few beers along the way. It is a busy place but not in as much that it stops you enjoying the area. Plenty of bagpipe playing in this area too and for a donation you can get a photo taken with said folk. Recommended.

Well it's a Scottish mile so more than an English mile. Many of the walking tours start from here. The street art is high quality and entertaining. The shops expensive but good for those souvenirs. The closes on each side a must to explore.Great restaurants abound.

There is a lot of History and while you take the walking tours you will learn alot. The view from the top is beautiful and be sure you have checked around and compared prices if you plan on buying cashmere. There are tour buses that also start from here so try booking a hotel that's nearby

If you love history and architecture...especially beautiful stone buildings that are centuries old...you will be in heaven on the Royal mile...make sure to venture down the small side alley's called closes...you will find interesting shops, restaurants, and other surprises...if you can go early...its very crowded with tourist in the summer!
