Reception is now in a portakabin next to the building site. There is only one lift to get all clients to the rooms (and we had to wait up to 10 minutes a time). The hotel restaurant now serves breakfast (overlooking the building site) and doubles as the lounge (which no one used for obvious purposes). Room soaps etc were not changed in 3 days and neither was the tea/coffee. This is all not impressive for a 5 star hotel.
That said, the rooms were recently refurbished and very good and up until I complained the staff were excellent as well. The location is superb, but you couldn't get into the hotel from the main entrances (only via the back door - next to the building site).
On complaining the staff really couldn't care less - they said that they had to refurbish, had publicised it widely and written to all booked clients (but their web site has minuscule details about it and they certainly didn'twrite to us). Once we were leaving they couldn't care less about the service. The receptionist even laughed at my complaint. A very poor show, from a 5 star hotel.More
