Room very small, phone kept making a strangle bleeping noise all night and there appears to be a door short in the bathroom. Room service average...didn't bother with breakfast at a steep GBP 17 per person. There are better hotels than this for the money

Do not let the exterior put you off as it is quite ugly but inside it is 5 star all the way. We booked an overnight stay for our wedding anniversary and how special it made it! We decided to book a club room which at 215 pound a might seem steep but considering the extras included,it is well worth it having access to the club rooms which brings compliment tea, coffe soft drinks and nibbles. And in the evening for 2 hours you get alcoholic beverages and canaries. But the real benefit of this room is access to the one spa which has excellent and relaxing facilities, the best being the Infiniti pool although the castle view has been blocked by some new office building. The room itself was beautiful with modern furniture that was well designed so that you watch the tv while unwinding in the bath being lit by mood lights, did not want to leave! In the morning we went down for breakfast which was amazing,so much choice and so fresh. Worth paying 3 pound extra for the cooked breakfast although the continental was equally good. We found the staff helpful and friendly but not too over attentive. There is a nine pound car charge which seems a bit dear but considering the cost of parking in Edinburgh and that allowed parking next day if you decided to go exploring, it is very reasonable!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a club room!

I stayed here in 2006. I have to say the refurbishment since is lovely. I had a view of the castle which was wonderful, great view. I particularly enjoyed the lighting in the bathroom, very modern. However, the toiletries could be improved from sheraton's standard brand. The king size bed is very comfy. The one thing that particularly stood out at this hotel was the peace and quietness. Festival Square is busy and the street below is a busy one and I couldn't hear any traffic. Thank you to Callum who gave me a guided tour of the room and how to use all the buttons. Room service and food also good.

Room Tip: view of the castle, it's worth it

First the good points, the hotel interior is gorgeous after it's upgarde. Our room allowed us access to the club facilities, well worth the extra as the One Spa is great and the drinks and canapes in the evening were fab. The Molton Brown toiletries in the room were a lovely treat. This was our second visit and this time we went for the self-service breakfast and although breakfast was a vast selection there were no labels on anything so although most things were obvious it would have been nice to know what the rest was. But my main criticism was it was all only warm and the plates were cold even though they came out of one of those hot plate machines so only ate a little of it as it became cold very quickly. Last time we ordered from the kitchen and that was piping hot. This time we came by car and I would recommend that the directions on the website are made a little clearer about how to access the hotel by car as you need to put a different street into your sat nav as Festival Square is a pedestrian entrance only.

Room Tip: Order breakfast instead of buffet if you want it to be hot

Stayed in a Club/ Executive Room with Castle view.

Have stayed here previously about 3 yrs ago, prior to the recent revamp and delighted to say the investment has been worth it. Lovely contemporary & comfortable spacious room, great views.

Complimentry use of the Club room for afternoon drinks/ canapes and breakfast in the morning very convenient. Also enjoyed complimentry use of the 'One Spa' adjoining the hotel which is wonderful - allow 2-3 hrs for the full experience.

All staff we met were very polite, helpful and attentive.

The room we stayed in was expensive, particularly as at the high of festival/ fringe season, but worth it for a treat!

Very enjoyable stay.

I just spent a weekend at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, and my wife and I enjoyed it very much. Arriving by car, the first impression wasn't very impressive. Some more lighting, a three or two and lights on the Sheraton sign on the brick wall as you enter the parking area - all would really help in making you understand that you have arrived at a nice hotel, and that you're not lost in an industrial backyard.... But from there everything picks up. The entrance was nice, with candlelights and the reception area looks brand new, calm and nicely furnished. Check in was friendly and fast. We changed our room to a room with a view towards the castle, and found the extra pounds well worth it. If you're in the hotel on business, that's perhaps not a big point, and the room itself was very nice. Everything looks new and well designed in both appearance and quality. The bath was stylish with smart details, mood lighting and separate shower, bathtub and wc. We used the adjoining gym and spa saturday morning and found it very nice indeed, and a few hours passes by very fast - and we ended up feeling really recharged and ready for the city itself. We found the sights to be within walking distance, and also took a sightseeing bus recommended by the reception at the hotel. An effective way to get to know a bit more about the city, and get orientated about what is where. It's no wonder Harry Potter author Rowlings has decided to settle in Edinburgh, 'cause the place looks the part! We had one dinner at the hotel restaurant, and the service and meal was excellent. Staying in a club room we had breakfast and afternoon drinks, coffee/tea, snacks included in the club lounge. Well worth it. The breakfast wasn't very fancy (for a few pounds more you can get the scottish breakfast in the restaurant downstairs, but we didn't try that) but well prepared. Having a drink, some tea and snacks in the club lounge on Saturday evening was very pleasant, and the place became quite packed, but that only made the atmosphere very pleasant. All in a all a hotel and city well worth recommending.

Room Tip: Spend a few pounds extra to get a room with a castle view! It just lifts the experience!

I booked 7 rooms for a girly weekend in Edinburgh. We decided to pay the extra and upgrade to the Club rooms - all I can say is wow!! The rooms were stunning - very comfy beds, bathroom with tub and shower, large TV, mood lighting, the list is endless. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We loved the Club Lounge with free drinks and canapes between 5:30pm & 7:30pm - it was ideal before going out on the night.
Entry to the spa was included with it being a club room - best spa we've ever been to (and we like our spa days!). The rooftop outdoor jacuzzi pool was amazing - I could have spent all day in there!
All of the main attractions along with the shops, restaurants and bars were within walking distance from the hotel.
We had an amazing trip - look forward to returning with my husband!
