“Unfortunate change”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

The Sheraton in Edinburgh was something of an old friend. A classy place for a friendly chat or business meeting. A comfortable stop over in town for the festival or a show. I can't remember ever having to complain about anything on all the previous occasions I visited. However, for our last trip just a couple of weeks ago, it was all change. New interior. New decor. New layout. And very little of it for the better. On entry from the main square on Lothian Road, you now head downstairs for the main reception. Why? No idea. The large, impressive and welcoming entrance lobby at ground level has disappeared. And the rooms. Don't get me started on the rooms. Virtually nothing in the mini bar (now 'new policy'). The water pressure is so poor it takes at least half an hour to run a bath (I kid you not). The room layout has been carefully designed to be as awkward as possible for accessing anything (e.g. Light switches, etc). There is no soap dish at the basin. All quite fancy, and all entirely devoid of utilitarian benefit. I could go on. Suffice to say the old friend has gone and this new stranger did everything possible to annoy. Rest in peace, Sheraton Edinburgh.

I love staying here just for use of the spa, sitting outside on the roof in the hydra pool in the winter is so relaxing! It's in a central location minutes walk from lots of great restaurants. The spa has some great treatments that leave you feeling special for days

Dear Guest
Thank you for posting your review regarding your recent stay with us and your experience at One Spa. I am delighted that overall you are happy with your stays, and really pleased that you take the time to relax and unwind at One Spa's Thermal Suite. I fully agree with you that the outdoor hydropool is fantastic place to be after a busy day in the city. I have taken great pleasure in sharing these very kind words with my colleagues at One Spa.
Thank you once again, we really do appreciate your comments and look forward to welcoming you back very soon.

We had a one night stay and found the room (castle view) nice and roomy with a comfortable bed to die for. The lighting was great and the bathroom well appointed and attractive.
The sliding glass door to the bathroom is difficult to open once closed and the lighting switches take some working out (especially for my mum!).
The parking, the reception (maybe too many questions?) and the lifts were all great and the food in the bar was good. Service was a little hard to attract but then again, we were left in peace for our lengthy family meetings.
The cooked breakfast was nice but we found all the different options confusing. Can we have breakfast included in the price maybe?

Small quibble: the music in the bar in the afternoon was unbearable (some live 'jazz' singer) and the tape at breakfast was irritating - but I always hate music at breakfast time (soft classical the only possible exception).

I like a properly laid table at breakfast with side plates, side knives, toast, butter and marmalade. I had to ask for all of the above.

Luxurious and in a great location - I would return any time! Thank you for a lovely stay.

Once again, a most enjoyable weekend stay at the Sheraton - which is now even better after the makeover :) The rooms are more than large enough, the bed so comfortable (and HUGE!) - and the mood lighting in the en-suite was most impressive.
The staff were more than helpful when required, but not in your face when not. Stuart, the Concierge was more than helpful in booking us a table at a restaurant which was already 'fully booked' (we tried to book online, but there was nothing available). He certainly knew a lot of people at various venues, and was very knowledgable about everything we enquired about.
We'll definitely be back at some point - and both our grown up kids spend a few nights there every January as part of their Christmas.

Room Tip: We've never been in a room that hasn't faced the castle - and we wouldn't have it any ot...

I was taken here for Afternoon Tea by my daughter for Mothers Day. What an experience. I have been to many places for afternoon tea but this was the best. I was treated like a queen and the food tasted as good as it looked.

This hotel looks out on the Usher Hall and the Castle, and is a 3 minute walk from the EICC. (Sadly not under cover though, so borrow an umbrella from the hotel if the weather isn't great...). For the EICC, it's perfect. For other things, it's pretty handy as long as you don't mind walking. (It's 10-15 mins from most things)

The pool and gym here are amazing, so try to take some time away from seeing Edinburgh's sites to enjoy them!

Staff are friendly and helpful, but there aren't always enough around at checkout and checkin times, though otherwise they were great. The castle view rooms are very nice, you really can just look out of your window and see the castle up above you!

This isn't a cheap hotel, but if it's in your budget, it is very very nice! A great example of how a 5* city centre hotel should be.

Room Tip: Try to get a castle view

Spent a few days here last week with my daughter as a treat and the Sheraton Grand doesn't ever fail to impress. Staff helpful and attentive but not overbearing, rooms are very modern but yet warm and cosy with beds that give the best nights sleep ever!

Can't fault such a beautiful hotel in a perfect location and views of the castle worth the extra.

Looking forward to another stay, hopefully sometime soon.
