Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa

I just returned from a week in Edinburgh, Scotland, where I stayed at the Sheraton Grande for six nights. We were on the club floor, which I would highly recommend. First of all, I would note the hotel has a wonderful location. It is across the street from Usher Hall and the Traverse Theatre, where we saw excellent theatre and musical performances during the Edinburgh Festival. It is a ten minute walk both to Edinburgh Castle and to Newmarket. The only time we needed the Tram or taxi transportation was to/from the Airport and a meal in Leith. Secondly, the rooms are quite nice and very quiet, and the public areas, modern and comfortable. Most importantly, I would note the excellent attitude of the staff. From Elinore from Rennes, France at the Front Desk to the team and at the Concierge Desk to the staff at the Club lounge, I have found everyone to be extremely solicitious of our comfort, in a pleasant and gracious manner. The club lounge was particularly special - from the quality and generosity of the selection of food and drinks both at breakfast and the cocktail hour to the graciousness of the staff - I felt at home. I can't speak to hotels in Edinburgh, but the service is at St. Regis levels - or better. In fact, in the future I would have to say St. Regis is at Sheraton Grande levels.

Room Tip: Don't try to choose the room, chose the Club Level - it is particularly special

I have just stayed at the Sheraton Edinburgh for a week. This is a lovely hotel. The room was very well appointed and, as always, the bed was really comfortable.

The breakfasts were good without being exceptional and the evening meals were good.

My only suggestion relates to breakfast. It is served from 7am and there were always people waiting. Think about serving earlier.

From the moment we arrived the experience was made memorable by the attitude of your staff. Quite the friendliest and most helpful of any hotel that I have stayed at. An absolute pleasure to deal with. The late check out time was great after a late night in the city. The room was sumptuous, the bathroom decadent. Loved it!!

Parking directions were a bit vague, and getting from the car park to the hotel with luggage was a challenge. Only a minor point but a couple of signs would help

Room Tip: All the rooms are quiet

Although the Sheraton in Edinburgh is not cheap, it is great. Large spacious room and a wonderful bath. The location is perfect, we had a castle view. Easy walking on the street in front of the hotel with many restaurants to choose. The bathroom was exceptional and Sheraton beds are hard to beat. If we get back, we will stay here again. Did not try the spa; but it too looked top rate.

We stayed five nights on points so consider this review in those terms. We were there during the Commonwealth Games (diving) and the Fringe Festival which is traditionally a busy time of year. Our check in was excellent and fast. Unfortunately, due to the busy season, we were not upgraded (this seems to be a reoccurring theme at SPG properties these days ...) but non the less, our room was lovely and had great amenities including two bathrobes (many we find only provide one!). Our favourite treat was the Scottish shortbread provided every day both in the lobby and in our room. The concierge was fun and helpful. The location is ok ... walking distance to everything but not in the heart. Great value for points. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: The gym is at the far end of the hotel and its a bit of a trek so if you are an avid user, you may w...

We were very impressed with this hotel. The hotel is very well appointed as you would expect for any facility in this price range.
Our room was very clean and contrary to other reviews, we found the staff very friendly and helpful. Especially Stuart, the concierge.
Funny and engaging. The entire staff was very patient as we learned what to do and where to go in Edinburgh. When arriving in Edinburgh, take the hop on hop off bus tour. (green bus) It's a great way to get an overview of the city. We parked our car in the parking garage next to hotel and it was complimentary. Sometimes the parking charges can surprise you at this downtown hotels!
Also, our internet was free with our room.
We liked this place!
