“Beautiful Hotel and Spa with excellent 5* Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2009

I have just arrived back from the Sheraton Hotel where my partner and I stayed for two nights for Valentines Day. The hotel was immaculate and the room was very spacious. All staff were polite, helpful and friendly. The room service Menu was very reasonably priced and was delivered within 20 minutes! The Spa facilities were outstanding and well worth the cost. I would definately recommend this hotel!

I was lucky enough to have been taken here by my husband for a Valentines surprise, we flew into Edinburgh airport and got a taxi right outside to the hotel, very friendly driver. Onward Travel.

Arriving at the hotel, we checked in very quickly and our room was ready, great room, really spacious on the 5th floor.

We were booked into the One Spa, adjoined to the hotel for the afternoon.
Wow it is lovely, nice area to have lunch in, and then into the pool and thermal suite area, all really lovely and clean, fantastic outside roof terrace hydropool,
I had a treatment, the best i have ever had, hot stone massage, whole experience lasted nearly 2 hours, well worth it.
Beautifully decorated and therapist Lynsey was great too.

In the evening we ate at Santini, also situated at the hotel, again great staff and lovely food, went out of their way to accommodate our needs.

A very good experience of Edinburgh, please go and enjoy it too.

Stayed at hotel with hubby dec 12th 08. Had a really good stay here hotel cant complain about it everything is excellent considering the time of year we were there, the hotel was lively but didnt disturb us at all. The afternoon teas are a must.

Sampled the breakfast the only thing I think they should invest in is a bigger toaster. other than that it was good.

Recommend the Roti restaurant 73 morrison street which is just at the back of the sheraton, its an Indian restaurant and the desserts are to die for..

another restuarant is blue which is just across the road, also good very busy indeed and lively, also tiger lily is a must in george street, food atmosphere is brilliant.

Also recommend charlie miller for a blow wave 13 stafford street which is just up from the hilton hotel on the right hand side, you will see a chur ch there and its half way down that street..

We were not sure about staying here due to previous reviews but were pleasantly surprised. Having just stayed a couple of nights in the Hilton Caledonian we found the Sheraton a far better experience. Staff were excellent, breakfast was one the best with a great selection of continental as well as cooked foods. Huge comfortable and stylish foyer lounge to relax in for coffee, cocktails, lunch. Spa meant to be fantastic but we didnt manage to go. Babies hours are restricted to 3-5pm each day which didnt suit us. The bedroom was spacious and clean although no view to speak of and the bathroom not meeting the quality one would expect from a 5 star hotel. Shower over bath with a clingy shower curtain, plastic fittings and small. However the overall experience of the Sheraton was very positive.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2009

Stayed at the Shearton for 3 nights in January 09. Very excited about the thought of staying at the 5 star Sheraton in Edinburgh, and expectations were high, especially after staying at the very impressive Sheraton in Cork last year.

On arrival the reception and bar areas were as expected. However, the bedroom was little better than a travel lodge. The bathroom was very small and there were still hairs on the floor from the previous guest. The bath was grotty and I had no desire to run a bath and have a soak. There was a robe in the room, but no slippers as advertised. The towels were very small and in need of an upgrade. I can give the bed a thumbs up.

Surprised to find that the dinner and breakfast was buffet style (yes, you will have to make you own toast and coffee as well!). The furniture in the dinning room was comparable to that of a canteen. The cooked breakfast was not special.

A positive, the conference dinner we had there was excellent. Ran smoothly and the food was fantastic.

Overall, the hotel is close to the city centre and conference centre. I feel the hotel is overpiced and does not reflect it's 5 stars. Interestingly, collegues staying in other hotels in the area thought that their hotels were not living up to their star rating either!

Enjoyed a very nice stay at the Sheraton Grand Edinburgh in December of 2008.

Stayed there for 5 nights (including Christmas and Boxing Day).

Check-in went smoothly and quickly, with very friendly, attentive, and personalized service from staff. Even management coming out to warmly greet us and welcome us to their hotel, as if they'd been eagerly awaiting our arrival. It was an indicator of the wonderful service that was to follow throughout the duration of our stay.

I'd been a bit concerned by the prospect of spending the holidays in a hotel, but there was a warm and festive atmosphere throughout the property of the course of our stay. It was as if they understood their guests had chosen to spend the holiday with them and went out of their way to make us feel at home and as comfortable as possible.

We were upgraded to a wonderful suite on the 5th floor - individually furnished, spacious, well-appointed, comfortable. A large bathroom, great deal of closet and storage space, a dining table, work desk, sitting area with chairs and loveseat, king bed, TVs and so on.

The one issue was that the wireless internet signal in our room was weak to non-existent. We were at the end of the hall (where most of the suites seemed to be located on various floors), which likely had something to do with that. Staff was very attentive to the issue and I was able to get a strong signal in the Club Lounge (which, incidentally, serves a tasty continental breakfast in the mornings and snacks and such during the day). The Club Lounge closed around 7pm but, if and when I needed to get online to get some work done, I had no problem accessing it after hours.

Had no service issues while there. We always returned from sightseeing and shopping trips to a clean room. Room service always arrived on time and correct. Nothing unexpected on our folio at checkout.

We had Christmas dinner at their Terrace Restaurant - dinner was an amazing buffet overflowing with great food.

Being a nightowl, I'm a big fan of 24hr room service, which they offered (a good-sized late night menu, at that). All rooms have minibars, as well. I was able to order coffee and snacks while up in the Club Lounge working online in the middle of the night, as well!

As for location, the hotel is quite well situation. It's just about a block off of one end of Princes St - Edinburgh's High shopping street. Suffice to say, we took advantage of that fact while out shopping on Boxing Day! The walk from the hotel to Princes St. can't be more than a few minutes. Being just off Princes St, the hotel is also quite convenient to Waverly rail station. Indeed, George St, the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, and many of Edinburgh's other sights and attractions are a short walk or very cheap cab ride away.

Further, views of Edinburgh Castle from the hotel are quite stunning (it was from our room, definitely). A big part of what brought us to Scotland was the opportunity to tour various castles around the country, and so having Edinburgh Castle itself staring down at us from our window was pretty neat. So I'd definitely suggest a castle view room!

Ultimately, it was a great place and way to spend the holidays. Very friendly staff, warm and welcoming feel, broad range of services. We did not use One Spa while there, but heard very nice things about it from locals we met and spoke to.

  • Liked — Location, service, warmth.
  • Disliked — No wireless internet signal in our room.

I stayed here twice once with my husband on vacation, once for a business trip a few months later. Clearly I had a good experience since I went back but this was because I was able to find really good rates through Priceline (cheaper than many 3* hotels).

Rooms are tired and certainly not what you expect from 5*. Service was great. We had room service a few times, OK, not bad, not great.

Not having complimentary internet service is the biggest complaint. Although this remains a problem in many UK hotels...

After all these complaints why do I give 4 stars? The spa! I wouldn't even worry about treatments. For £20 you can access the spa facilities and the hydrapool -- very much worth it!
