“Not he concrete box you expect...”
Reviewed 11 October 2010

The castle facing side of the hotel opens onto a concrete square with a large video screen on it, although reception is actually on the other side and one floor down. Seeing the hotel from this side makes you wonder what you're letting yourself in for as it's not an attractive setting. Come through he doors of the hotel and everything changes, to classic furnishings and a large bar with very comfortable seating - a long way from concrete. The rooms are very modern with excellent business facillities, good internet, TV and bathrooms with thetraditionally comfortable Sheraton beds. I stayed twice in September - which says it all. Happy to go back again, but it's nto the cheaprest option about. Breakfast is very good - a feast .

I'm a regular visitor to the Edinburgh Sheraton for business though not been up for a number of months so got a very pleasant surprise when I arrived and was given a recently refurbished room. The old style rooms were pleasant enough but were getting quite dated and there's only so many heavy tartan curtains a man can take. The new rooms are a million miles away and as well as being very stylish are very practical - the bathrooms are as swish as you'll find in any hotel and there are nice touches like the mood lighting (although this only seems to have a couple of settings).

They've installed a nice large LCD TV screen and although the surfing through TV channels can only be described as "clunky" and slow, they've added a panel by the desk to allow you to plug in your own equipment such as a video camera, PC or HDMI link to play media back on the large plasma. Brilliant (though they don't supply cables in the room so you'll need to remember to bring the connectors with you - the reception desk probably have some spares but I didn't want to ring down after I arrived late at night)

For desk and work area provides power outlets conveniently so you're not scrabbling around on the floor and for non-UK visitors there is no need to pack a power convertor plug as they provide standard continental Europe and US plugs on the wall as well. Wireless internet access is fast though it took me a couple of attempts to get connected and you need a code from reception (can't just connect and do online) - if you're a Starwood Platinum you get internet access free and the reception should give you the code when you check in (which they did with me)

Overall excellent hotel getting better. (and still with the best swimming pool/hot tub in Edinburgh)

We have just returned from a fantastic weekend in Edinburgh staying at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa. The new rooms are lovely, with a great view of the castle. The Spa was very relaxing and definitely one we would like to return to. The staff in both the hotel and spa were very welcoming, and all in all made our weekend most enjoyable.

Hotel definately lived up to its 5 stars in all aspects.
Decadent sumptuous surroundings teamed with high tech contemporary bedroom space. Pool and spa areas very welcoming well staffed and immaculate.
Restaurants and bar areas also first class - evening pianist added extra class to ambience. Location is perfect with Castle views - a 10 minute stroll to the famous Michelin star Witchery restaurant and Tatoo within the Castle grounds.
We enjoyed a trip of Edinburgh via the tourist bus - very entertaining and lots to explore including the famous Fringe - such a laugh.
Drove to Leith to visit and lunch on Royal Yacht Britannia before flying home. Airport is within easy reach - a very enjoyable experience all round.

I have been very fortunate to have stayed in some pretty amazing hotels around both the UK and the Globe and I must say that this is right up there in terms of the room quality.

Firstly the Sheraton is currently going through a major refurbishment and I must say that the new rooms are out of this world. There must be 30 different mood settings for the lighting alone and the bathroom is about as modern as they get right now.

Location, well it's a stones throw from everything if you are on either business or at your leisure. The staff at the hotel were very helpful including the concierge who recommended and booked us a table at the "La Monde" restaurant in George St. My Wife and I really enjoyed the food and the bar, great cocktails served too.

If you are staying in Edinburgh then this is the place to stay, you won't be disappointed .
By the way go and see my Daughter who is currently playing "Phyllis" in the Theatre Show " The Railway Children" at the Fringe until August 30th. Show starts at 14:45 daily, kids will love it.
BBC highly recommend it too.

The rooms have been recently updated and are very chic. The bathrooms are a work of art and very large (although the toilet area is tight), and the lighting is very entertaining to play with. However, we could not figure out how to light the bathroom without lighting the sleeping area. They did have dedicated low-level lighting by each bedside-why don't more hotels do this? The hair dryer was in the desk drawer--not practical for use.

The housekeeping staff were great. We had breakfasts in the restaurant and it was quite good and varied. They also have a nice lounge area, but no exterior spaces for guests.

Overall, a very nice hotel.

We came here for our first anniversary. The only bad thing that i could say about our whole stay is that it was very expensive, although we did choose to splash out.

The Sheraton grand is pure luxury, excellent staff, the rooms are very confortable, modern, clean and have all the amenities you would expect from a high class hotel. Breakfast is an awesome experience in itself, and i felt that our 2 night stay was not long enough to sample everything on offer! We visited the spa, which was possibly the nicest spa i've ever been to, however it was certainly pricey. The pool was lovely especially the roof top pool, jacuzzi ans spa complex.

The city was aweome and i would happily go back, its beautiful, cultural, modern, busy clean and friendly. i recommend a hop-on-hop-off open bus tour to get around to see everything, Edinburgh castle is a must and make sure you get a guided tour, the royal yacht britannia is very interesting and the shopping centre alongside it is impressive, and the dungeons are brilliant with top class actors and effects and rides, i think its much better than london dungeons! There are loads of top quality restaurants, we did stuggle to find things to do in the evening but that mainly bcause we went just before the fringe festival which was unfortunate, usually there are theatres and comedy clubs to go to.

All in all, we had a great weekend away!

Dear Mr & Mrs …

I am delighted to read your comments regarding your recent stay with us here at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa. I have shared your comments with the team here.

Regarding the charges for One Spa, we offer guests complimentary use of the Fitness Studio, 19m Swimming Pool and the Cleopatra Baths. All other treatments are charged separately which include the Thermal Suite and Hydro Pool area (known as Escape at One) as these heat and hydro experiences are a treatment within themselves, hence the reason that there is a charge.

It is such a shame that you have missed the Edinburgh International Festival, the city is absolutely buzzing at the moment, at least the weather was not our typical Scottish summer. Hopefully you will return for your next anniversary, where a very warm welcome will await you at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa.

Kind regards.
