“Fantastic”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

Just back yesterday after a 2 night stay at the Bonham, it is well within walking distance of Pricess Street and all the shops. W e walked from Waverley station in about 25 minutes, it was a little hard to find as no big sign outside, but once we had found it wow. A nice friendly greeting at reception, checking in was so easy. We booked a superior room with breakfast as it was our wedding anniversary. Lift up to the third floor, we were at the back of the hotel with a great view. The room, very large with a great king size bed, settee and table and chairs, very mordern but very very nice. Tea, coffee biscuits, mini bar, hair drier and iron [ for the wife]. The bathroom, king size bath, seperate shower, lots of hot water, great towels and even face cloths. All spottlessly clean. We could not of asked for a nicer room, just fantastic. We had afternoon tea the first evening, again a true treat, with fresh sandwiches and cakes and scones, served with fresh tea and coffee. The breakfast your chioce from the buffet cereals fruit meats cheese, a good selection. Then the cooked breakfast qualitty produce well cooked and well served by friendly helpfull staff. The wife had kippers with poached egg also very good. I had eggs benadict the next morning to die for cannot wait to go back i highly reccommend this hotel. A big thanks and well done to all the staff at The Bonham. And to the management your staff are a credit to you from the maintainace man and the cleaners to the waiting staff all so kind and helpfull. JOHN T

Room Tip: Keep out of the mini bar

Afternoon tea on Mothers Day was well presented with a choice of 6 & 7 teas and infusions.
Sandwiches and cakes were small but adequate for the time of day.
Nice to see a variety of tea strainers in use and not just for display purposes.

Staff were very attentive and providing a non alcoholic cocktail was not a problem.

Stayed here with friends for a weekend break. booked into the restaurant for the first night as they had a "special" £18.50 for two courses. Headed for the bar for a drink before dinner - the bar is quite small for the size of the hotel and the hotel has devised a superb strategy for keeping numbers down in the bar area - charge between £9 and £13 for a pint of beer!!!! cheapest drink was a bottle of Perroni (equivalent to half pint) at £4.50.We would have made a night of it at the hotel had the drinks prices been anywhere near reasonable but all of our party objected to being ripped off. Went for meal to find that the £18.50 meal was available however around half the dishes on the menu attracted a supplement. We had friends staying at the Waldorf who told us the price of a pint was half the price of the Bonham. We chatted to a few of the wedding guests congregated outside the hotel on the Saturday night - not a happy bunch I have to say - all complained about the prices. Service was OK and the staff wee quite polite and helpfull. The rooms were average and probably a little less than what would expect for the money - bathroom a little tired. Tea making facilities in the room but no complimentary biscuits or complimentary water (surprise surprise, they were available in the mini bar at an extortionate additional cost). All in a nice hotel spoiled by rip off prices.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel!!!

Many thanks for your review. I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience at The Bonham.
We are always listening to our guests feedback and as a result of some recent comments about our bar prices we have now reduced the price of our bottled beer.
We do hope to see you at The Bonham again.
Kind regards
Natalie

Our first stay at the Bonham. First impressions were favourable. Rooms were adequate and satisfactory. The character and decor of the hotel are excellent, it is truly a magnificent building.
The rooms are well equipped with even an iron and ironing board.
One very big gripe. The drinks in the very small bar are grossly over priced. £4.50 for a bottle of peroni. This equates at £9.00 a pint!! Avoid at all costs; it simply isn't worth it. Whilst we were there, we got talking to members of a wedding party whom, were appalled at the pricing strategy.
Would we return. No way!

I'm pleased to say my favourite Edinburgh hotel back on from, with good food and much better service. The Hotel itself is still the epitome of Edinburgh town house style.

Breakfast still needs a bit of work, but dinner was excellent.

We arrived Friday afternoon and were greeted by lovely staff that offered us a standard room, although we had booked a petit room which was a nice surprise. Both bedroom and bathroom was spotless, and the bedroom was and good size with a lovely view. The breakfast was great as were the serving staff. The location of the hotel is perfect as it is 2 minutes walk from bars, restaurants and 5 minutes from the main shopping on Princes street. Definitely recommended.

We spent a long weekend here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was recommended by friends who has previously stayed (a couple of years prior) and the majority of reviews were also very good. Given this we had quite high expectations. The room was a decent size and was comfortable. However, the bathroom could also have done with a bit of an upgrade, we had to call down for towels as these were missing from the bathroom. My husband had also called ahead and arranged for a gift to be delivered to the hotel and placed in the room prior to our check in. This had not happened and it had to be chased with reception. This gift was eventually brought up but with no apologies. It was the staff that really let the place down, there was an unfriendly 'welcome' from the receptionist when checking in. We had issues with the receptionist understanding requests on a number of occasions during our stay, including the simple task of trying to check out. The breakfast was very nice, as were the staff serving in the dining room. The location was also good, nice and quiet but a short walk into the centre. However, for the amount we paid for the 4 nights I expected something a bit more special. I was disappointed with the service and will search for an alternative hotel when we return to Edinburgh.
