We stayed over the weekend and had a fabulous room over looking the city, which was quiet. The receptionists was lovely and very helpful. The room was lovely and clean with Molton Brown products. Our stay was inclusive of breakfast which we were looking forward to having after reading recent reviews. Unfortunately the breakfast service lacked any form of co-ordination. We were with friends and they were not able to seat us together, it took 20minutes when the staff finally asked if we would like to order breakfast and another 20minutes until it arrived. Our friends breakfast was forgotton about and when asked they were apologetic and offered to cook another, unfortunately we had finished ours. We also had to ask for toast, milk, sugar and to clear the plates from the cold buffet. The breakfast was lovely to eat when it arrived, though they could have had stornoway black pudding which would be nicer.

We recently spent 2 nights at The Bonham. We arrived midday and as such had no problem being advised that our room was not ready. The young lady on reception was very polite and efficient, advising that she would take care of our luggage and send it to our room when it was ready - we went off to explore the city. We returned four hours later and our superior double room was ready, our luggage was there, and we were amazed as to how big the room was. It was spotlessly clean, had an equally good sized bathroom, and the view from the massive sash windows was impressive. The fact that these windows could also be opened was pleasing too. This hotel is in a good quiet location, yet within an easy 5 minute walk of Princes Street. We did not have dinner in the hotel, but had breakfast both mornings, and it was here that we felt that the hotel lets itself down. The food was of very good quality, but on both mornings the place settings were not up to scratch. Several guests other than ourselevs had to request cutlery. Similarly, on both mornings we had to request milk for our tea as the small jug on the table was empty. There is a buffet style service for fruit, cereals, etc. and a menu selection for the cooked breakfast. We opted for full Scottish on both occasions, and although the quality was good some of the items could have been a little hotter. On both occasions we had to request toast as this was not offered to us but was obviously available. There is no bar in the hotel, although drinks are served in the reception/lounge area. Although this is very comfortable, it does not create a very relaxing atmosphere to have a drink. None of the points mentioned would prevent us from returning to this hotel, in fact the room was one of the nicest we've stayed in, it's just a pity that these minor issues, which can easliy be corrected, prevent this review from stating that The Bonham is an excllent hotel.

I lived in Edinburgh for some 10 years and left 6 years ago. I go back regularly to see friends.

It is always difficult to decide where to stay in Edinburgh. We wanted somewhere contemporary but not too designer. I had visited the Bonham some 10 years ago and remember it being modern back then, but I don't think much had changed in a decade. There was still the circular, red seating in the bay window and the dark purple walls. The seating in the foyer is worn, yet there is a relaxed atmosphere on entering.

The Bonham is at the West End of Edinburgh, off the main tourist map, but a short walk to the bustle of Princes Street or the bars of George Street. On arrival at 11pm we left our luggage and ventured to Whighams Wine Cellar for a Friday night tipple. The Bonham doesn't really have a bar but you can sit in the small foyer to drink, it was full with 12 people.

Our room was number 315. At GBP185 per person the room was ok, but maybe a tad overpriced but breakfast is included. Spacious, quiet and looking North over Stockbridge, Leith to the Forth and over to Fife. An amazing view. Our sleep was great too, so quiet and the bed wasThe downside was the bathroom, it is far from luxurious with nowhere to put your toiletries and pretty simple shower and bath.

Breakfast is great. Served in the big dining room. A variety of cooked breakfast to a buffet, whereby you can help yourself. The only niggle was no strong coffee was available. No latte, no cappuccino just straight up filter.

I heard that the Bonham does and amazing Boozy Lunch on Saturday's and Sunday's at GBP45 for 4 people with wine. Unfortunately we had plans, but I think it would be great to go back to the restaurant in the future.

I liked The Bonham. I just think it needs a little modernisation as it's a little worn around the edges. Maybe we will be back, but maybe we will try one of the Bonham's sister hotels.

Booked this hotel on the internet as part of a trip for my girlfriends 30th birthday. As it was a special occassion i booked the suite with the copper bath (Room 1). First impressions were good until my girlfriend sat on the bed and nearly disappered. The bed was completely shot and a complaint was made straight away. At £142 a night the very least i expected was a decent bed.
The mattress was rplaced the following day (after two more complaints) however this did not solve the problem as the base was broken. Had to get the general manager to come and sit on the bed to finally get some action (and avoid another sleepless night and bad back) bed base was replaced finally curing problem. Other nigles were the remote control volume not working on the TV and lots of dust. Edinburgh is a great city however it was soured by our experiences at the hotel. No compensation or even an enqiry was made about our stay on checkout, i'll visit Edinburgh again but definately not this hotel.

My brother and I stayed here as part of our London/Scotland trip.. for a night. It was located in the West End which is a bit away from the action although easily walkable. I thought it was nice but somewhat overpriced. The rooms could use some updating.. Nonetheless, the staff here are extremely warm and helpful and that definitely counts when you are on the go!

Had booked to stay here because of its quiet location. We arrived at 3.15 and were shown to our rooms. Before dinner we had drinks in the Reception front room (not very cosy) and then went in for dinner. My husband ordered the lamb chops which he was assured arrived without potatoes. His dish finally arrived: TWO TINY chops and a few veggies AND potatoes! The Restaurant Manageress then returned with "extra potatoes". When my husband questioned the extra dish, she told him "you insisted on extra"! She clearly did not know that all the dishes came with potatoes. She was very rude and surley throughout our stay. The service improved when the Hotel Manageress took over. I would stay again because the bedrooms were pleasant (nothing special) and it was nice to get out of the centre at night and the breakfast was delicious.

The Bonham is one of our favourite hotels and I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else when we're in Edinburgh. We don't often stay in summer, usually we're down at the end of the year for Christmas shopping. The hotel is quiet and comfortable. Car parking is free and it's a nice walk into town. This time we had the market menu in the dining room and it was fantastic value for money. My only minor quibble would be that the bathrobes have disappeared from the rooms since our last stay. Apart from that, it was a fantastic visit.
