Location was perfect - it was easy to walk to with large packs from the train station bus stop (we took the bus shuttle from the airport). It is just off the Royal Mile and near tons of fun pubs and good spots to eat.

They offered a significant discount off food from The Royal Mile pub (just a 2 minute walk from the hostel) which ended up saving us tons and money and made the hostel significantly better value than surrounding options. They also offered a free pub crawl which was quite fun and they showed us some really sweet pubs we otherwise wouldn't have guessed to walk into.
The hostel has an enormous kitchen which is available to use for a limited number of hours per day (we never used it thought). They also offer a cheap breakfast option which includes cereals, toast, jams/spreads, juices, etc. that is probably worth it compared to other pub options. There isn't a grocery store nearby the hostel.

The rooms were adequate. They do have lockers for each bed and they are plenty large to contain all of your belongings. There are only 3 showers for all of the shared dorm rooms and we ended up waiting a few minutes for a shower, but nothing worth a negative review.

The staff were helpful and nice (and they have free sweets at the front desk). There is wifi in the common rooms which works well. Luggage storage on the way out is a bit scary as it is in the main room which every guest will be walking right by on the way to the guest floors, plus all bags are in a ginormous pigpile and you just trust that noone thinks your bag is more attractive than theirs.

This place is crawling with bed bugs...DO NOT STAY HERE!! We stayed here for 3 nights and each night just progressively got worse. On our last nights stay, we told the reception who clearly just didn't care. Even though we asked for new cleaned sheets it made no difference and in the morning had even more bites! I actually found 2 bed bugs in my bag as we were leaving. We have made several complaints since, but the staff are useless. They are very quick to pass the buck and say its not them, but its so obvious where this problem started.
We paid £80 a night for a private ensuite room and to come home bitten to shreds is ridiculous!!
We were in room 1 (private room) If your staying here....GOOD LUCK IS ALL I CAN SAY

This hostel has the perfect location ~ 1min from the train station and the Royal Mile. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is very tired and could do with a good vacuum, it is also quite noisy but this is due to its central location. However we would stay again as it was just what we needed, a comfy bed in the middle of town.

The hostel is incredibly well located, just a few steps away from the Royal Mile (the big promenade that links the Edinburgh Castle with the Hollyrood Palace), so the location couldn't be better.
The problem there was the dirty. There were always trash and leftovers all over the hostel, the bathrooms had a terrible aspect and the room smelled unbelievably! The carpet was disgusting, the duvets and pillows smelled like swet and there was absolutelly no air circulation. I don't recommend it, except if you don't mind about staying in a really dirty place.

We stayed in this hostel after reading a few reviews and because the cost was on the lower side of what else we had found. The location is good (just up the steps from Waverley Station) and central for site-seeing, shopping and a night out. It was my birthday so we wanted to make the weekend a little special so opted for a private ensuite room. The person at check in was lovely and made us feel welcome but then we were told our room was in another building which didnt make us too confident! The room was clean but very small for two people- it only had the two beds in the room (which touched forming a claustriphobic L shape and very little floor space to move around. The bathroom was also very small which made two people trying to get ready for a night out very difficult! The beds were comfy however we were on the main corridor so throughout the night / early hours of the morning, we were kept awake by people coming back and also walking past us to use the bathroom! Also, every time the water was used there was a very loud clunk which kept waking us up especially in the morning. Also the checkout time of 10am is also somewhat inconvient, especially as they charge £3.00 for luggage storage!
