“Great Location. Glad I stayed in Summertime”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2010

I stayed in the female dorm for 2 nights then my husband joined me for 2 nights in a private double. The dorm was very budget but the double was a comfortable room with a good price. Clean bunkbeds. Only one power socket working in the dorm. No obvious heating in both bathrooms - would be cold in wintertime. 9am dorm shower was cold, but fine in evening. Dorm fairly noisy as above common room. But private room was across the road and quiet.A great location and what I expected for a budget hostel.

I must say the hostel and the bed etc. were clean. but such an incredible small room (we had private room with bunk beds) in an extremely noise street was not worth 30 pound per person.

This place was absolutely disgusting - the sort of hostel you hear about in dreaded stories. When we arrived the staff were incredibly rude and could barely be bothered to serve you. When I went to the bed they had allocated to me there was someone else in it and the staff didn't want to believe me at first becasue on their records 'the bed was free'. I had to argue for thenm to allocate me a bed wihtout someone sleeping in it! The beds were a death trap waitin to happen - no ladders to the top bunks you literally had to climb up the side and then haul/throw yourself over the top to get in and getting down was even more frightening. The commuincal bathrooms were also a disgrace and clearly hardly ever cleaned. I would never stay here again and plan to tell everyone I know never to stay here.

Cleanliness and furniture clearly sub-par for £15 per night. The hostel is very big, so I can't blame the staff for failing to handle the dozens of drunk *hostel guests* who were partying and making a ruckus all night. However, if you want to stay over the weekend, be aware that there are a lot of bars in the area.
There are over 6 "visitscotland rated" hostels in the area around the central station, I recommend avoiding the backpackers and going for one with 4 or 5 visitscotland star ratings.

very friendly and nice staff, good bedrooms and beds! for young people there`s a good atmosphere and its very confortable and nice, so it fits every age.
I suggest this hostel also because its very clean, the showers and toilets too (very important) and you can also cook in a clean kitchen!
the hostel is near the city, so you don`t have to walk a long ways to get to the nice parks, to go shopping and so on...

Wiked hostel, comfy beds, secure rooms and friendly staff. Location is ace- half way between old and new town so you cant go wrong. downs: no lifts and tonns of staires, loads of perminant guests so kinda felt like invading someones home also only one girls showers on 2nd floor so very crowed in the am but easy enough things to get around. great place to crash tho!
