“A great place to stay in Central Edinburgh”
Reviewed 3 September 2012

The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from Waverley railway station. The reception staff were very attentive. The room was comfortable and very functional. The bed was very comfortable and we got a really good sleep. We wanted somewhere to stay eaving at 05.30 hours to catch an early train South and early check out was excellent. Would use again if we wanted to be close to the railway station.

the hotel hasn't been upgraded like the other Jury's inn in other city's. so i choose it on its locations and also it has good safety as no one can enter the lift if they don't have a room card. it was a great stay - the staff on the reception were so helpful, the staff in the bar were welcoming, hard working and chatty to everyone. the food in the bar was great and value for money. the breakfast buffet was well organised and fresh. the rooms and public areas were very clean. I had 1 complaint the bed was uncomfortable and if it was hot - there was no aircondtioning which might be a problem in the summer - or hot weather. But we would definately stay there again.

Stayed here for the last couple of nights of The Fringe. Booked last minute (through Jury's web site) and got a good price. I asked for a high up room, and got one at the back with a view of Salisbury Crags. It was very clean, quite smart and well thought out - ideal for a city break hotel when you are out most of the day and evening. I didn't use the restaurant or breakfast facilities at all. The staff were very pleasant and friendly - and I would certainly use the hotel again when visiting Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Choose higher floors for better views and back rooms for no/minimal noise from Waverly train station...

Used this hotel as an ideal local base for The Fringe for three nights. Expensive at this time of year which I had expected (3 nights £654!) but felt the price did not really reflect the general quality of the room. I would have expected a little more care and attention to detail given. The hotel needs some refurbisment and redecoration and the lobby is rather stark and cold however the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was located on the third floor facing the railway station which meant a lot of activity throughout the night. I would be interested to see what the rates are outside of The Fringe.

Room Tip: Choose one at the back of the hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at Jurys Inn Edinburgh. I will pass on your positive feedback about the staff and I am pleased to hear you were well looked after during your stay. The rooms at the front of the hotel do offer better views of the city, however some guests prefer to be at the back of the hotel which faces away from the station so does tend to be quieter. On your next visit to Edinburgh I will ensure you are allocated a back facing room.

With regards to your comments about our Reception we are undergoing a soft refurbishment of this area over the next few months. During the festival prices across the city do increase as do our rates. Out with August our rates are lower and are again competitive in the city, should you wish to return to us please contact me directly and I will ensure you get a competitive rate along with a back facing room. Thank you again for your comments.

Kind Regards
Claire Livingston

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at Jurys Inn Edinburgh. I will pass on your kind comments to our Housekeeping team about our bedrooms. The views from the back of the hotel are not as good as the front facing rooms; we do have superior rooms available which all have front facing views of the famous Calton Hill. Next time you return to us please contact me directly I will ensure you are allocated one of these rooms. We do offer Haggis during our breakfast; however this is made to order. I apologies this was not made clear to you and I will look at our signage to ensure all guests can see this.
Once again many thanks for your kind comments about Jurys Inn Edinburgh and please contact me directly when you return and I will ensure you get a front facing room with a good view.

Kind Regards

Great location; Rooms are very clean. Breakfast buffet well managed. Staff is hard working and very courteous. Rooms on the Jeffrey Street side have terrific views. Not a luxury hotel but a comfortable and pleasant base for enjoying Edinburgh. Walking distance to both the Old Town sights and New Town restaurants, as well as the train station.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the Jeffrey Street side for great views

This is probably not a hotel that expects to get high marks. It seems to be designed to provide what is adequate for pleasant stay in Edinburgh.

This building is about eight floors on one side but only a couple of floors on the other (on a very steep hill). We probably had the best view available which was the area opposite the train station of old, dark and dirty buildings... very depressing. The entry is modern and the staff absolutely superb and helpful. In fact, I would give this hotel very high marks for the training of their staff. All universally polite and helpful despite the mobs of travelers!

The room looked as if it were designed by a motorhome engineer. Had exactly the space needed to live, only the amount of lighting needed to read, only the amount of storage space to be barely adequate, only the bathroom space needed. Tea service and TV. It was extremely ergonomically designed. I cannot really fault the room because it did, indeed, work out better than fine for us but space was not generous.

But I suspect people like the property because of its superb location. It is just down a short Close just about half way down the Royal mile. It is also on a Hop on Hop off stop.

There is a down side that readers must note. If you have a car you need to know there is absolutely NO hotel parking. One can park briefly in front to onload luggage. The recommended parking is just below at the Waverly train station. When we were there we had no problem finding a place to park. You should be AWARE that the hotel does offer a form of validation for Waverly that heavily discounts the parking fee. For two nights (three days) I believe might have paid about 30+ GBP (from memory as I do not recollect the exact amount). The walk to and from the parking is up a steep hill but not more than 5 minutes or so.

Definitely not a hotel that is glitzy but certainly a convenient distance from all the attractions one might have come to see in Edinburgh.
