“Making the best of what they have”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 December 2013 via mobile

I consider Jurys Inns as a step between budget and a more high class of hotel, predictable but not spectacular which is usually just what you need when making a quick one night business stay.

The hotel is a short 5 min walk from Waverley and at check in I was offered a choice of rooms, e.g. Quiet or more of a view, bath or just shower, which was a nice touch. Was also given a free wifi code - assuming this was because I was booked as a business traveller but it was very handy.

Restaurant staff were friendly, food was good for the price but drinks a little steep. The room itself was comfortable, bed lovely and warm, but in need of decoration and an uplift. Not as nice as some of the other more modern Jurys Inns. Would stay again, especially for the price.

We have just spent 3 nights in Edinburgh and on arival was given the choice of the room with the view or the quieter room at the back we opted for the front looking onto Waverley station and beyond to Calton hill.
There was some noise from the trains but not enough to spoil the break and given the choice again I would still take the view.
We arrived early and were going to put our bags into storage when we were told the room was ready so we had a good start to our break .The receptionist was a young man who was very polite and very helpful as were all the staff we came into contact with.
The room was on the fifth floor and well away from the lift area and apart from the odd delivery lorry and a few trains was very quiet clean and a good size for the two uf us.There was always hot water for a shower or bath.
The only slight niggle was the heating which was adequate but cool on occasions as the wind was quite strong and the window seals not too good but that was our only minor niggle about the room .
The hotel is well situated for the High Street and Princess Street and beyond.
Going out of the hotel and up the steps put you right in the middle of the Royal Mile and about a ten minute walk from the Castle.
Breakfast was included in our trip and it was very good plenty of choice and it as well topped up despite the hotel being quite busy , one way they could improve the breakfast would be to get some proper sauces not the cheap sachets you struggle to get into and are then let down by the taste.

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet opt for the rooms at the rear

Thank you for taking the time to write such kind words regarding your stay with us here at Jurys Inn Edinburgh.

Our Hotel does provide some excellent views of Carlton Hill and Edinburgh City Centre as you said, which provides a convenient location for sightseeing. Our staff continuously strive to go above and beyond with the service they offer and I was pleased to read this was reflected in your experiences. We understand the importance of good quality breakfast for our guests, especially when they have a full day in Edinburgh ahead of them. I appreciate your feedback regarding the windows in the bedroom and we are in the process of having this reviewed to prevent any external noise and not to lose any heat from out of the room.

This hotel has a great location, the rooms are a bit tired and need updating, the shower is over the bath & i hate shower curtains from a hygiene point of view. however the staff were excellent allowing us an early check-in and the breakfasts were excellent. We would happily return depending on price.

Everything you would expect from a 3-star Jurys Inn. Only problem was some noise from other guests in the early hours - not a lot the hotel can do about that. Thankfully it cleared up quickly. Everything else was very good.

I stayed for one night last week. I stayed in Room 222 facing the station. While very clean, and comfortable for the price paid, I had a disturbed night because of train noise. Colleagues in other rooms did not experience any noise, so think about requesting a quiet room.

Shower was not very forceful but facilities were fit for purpose.

Breakfast was efficient, tasty and filling.

Fine for one night.

We have just returned from a weekend break in November for the xmas markets. We arrived by train and left Waverly station via the central exit, it took under 5 minutes to reach our hotel. Use the same route cutting through the station for a for quick route to Princess Street. The front of the hotel is situated on Jeffrey Street and when exited at the back, there are 2 sets of steps to climb and you find yourself on the Royal Mile, hence a super location for sightseeing and shopping!
We arrived early and although our room was not available our luggage was stored so we could explore Edinburgh, we found the staff to be really helpful and polite. Our room was clean had a double and single bed, The bathroom, whilst a little small had a shower was over the bath.
Breakfast was provided on our booking, despite being busy there was plenty of choice and we were not rushed. Our room was on the fifth floor and close to the lifts, this meant we could constantly here them working, also being on the front overlooking the station, we could here the trains, better view but if you can request a quieter room at the back away from the lifts. However good value for money in an excellent location, we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a rear view room away from lifts for a quieter nights sleep

We stayed here for 2 nights in November in an upgraded room deal. As we travelled by train, it took under 5 minutes to reach our destination from Waverley Train Station. The front of the hotel is situated on Jeffrey Street and when exited at the back, there are 2 sets of steps to climb and you find yourself on the Royal Mile, hence a super location for sightseeing and shopping! We arrived early and were able to check-in, at all times we found the staff to be really helpful and polite. Our room had a double and single bed, the decor was slightly tired looking. The shower was over the bath and had a fixed head to the wall which is quite old-fashioned. the breakfasts were faultless. We dined in Edinburgh centre so cannot comment on the lunch/dinner. We were given 2 cards to enter our room and the lifts are also operated with the key, a good security feature. Also we received complimentary newspapers on both mornings. Our room was on the top floor and nice and quiet. To summarise we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: High floor rooms facing the back of the hotel. We stayed in 718 which was perfect.
