Stay Central Hotel is integral with the Three Sisters pub. Breakfast is served in the pub bar; the entrance to the hotel is off the pub courtyard. This fun hotel has the feel of an up-market hostel; in fact many of the rooms have multiple beds sleeping four or six, plus there is a dormitory which also sleeps six. In a small group or family sharing a room this is a very economical option. A lot of effort has gone into providing finishing touches with good tea and coffee facilities in the room and teacakes as a treat. The beds are comfortable although the furniture a little sparse. My bathroom was a high standard so the rooms and bathrooms are more what you expect from a significantly more expensive hotel.
This is a reasonably priced hotel right in the centre of Edinburgh, the staff are very friendly and helpful. I recommend it if you would like something a little different from the standard plastic hotel chain.

Room Tip: Some evenings you can expect the courtyard to be full of drinking revellers. Might be best to avoid...

... as it's within a courtyard that also hosts an outdoor section of a pub/bar it can get a little loud in the evenings.

The location of the hotel is excellent with quick and easy access to the Royal Mile, the castle and plenty of bars, restaurants and cafés.

Apart from that, we've no bad words to say.

Hi Scott W,

Thank you for taking the time to review the STAY Central, we appreciate all feedback we receive.

As you have noted, we are located next to the courtyard of The Three Sisters however, we do have rooms that are not affected by noise and these can be requested at the time of booking :-)

Looking forward to seeing you again,

Rachel Duff

A lovely location (very central, we could walk to pretty much all the attractions we wanted to see) and a spotless and well-appointed room. My daughter loved the personal TVs! Everything from the little touches (Tunnocks Teacakes!) to the important stuff (comfy beds, lovely 'rainfall' shower) pleased us and we really like the imaginative contemporary decor. The staff were delightful - friendly and professional, 10 points to them.

The only niggle for me was that there was no accommodation for a vegan in the breakfast - so I had to bring my own soya milk and vegan spread. Suggest that as this will also benefit the lactose intolerant, they might want to look into getting sachets of soya milk (they last a long time!) and vegan spread (which will freeze, so no waste). Little things like this don't cost a lot but there sure mean a lot to the 8 - 9% of the population who are either lactose intolerant or vegan.

But that's a minor gripe - we will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Higher rooms are less noisy (there is a pub under the hotel) - ask for the 3rd or 4th floor!

Hi Jane!

Thank you for the great review – I am pleased you enjoyed your short stay with us here in Edinburgh :-)

It’s lovely to hear such positive feedback about our recently refurbished hotel – I’m glad you enjoyed our superb location, brand new rooms and the wee touched throughout.

I’ll definitely take your comments on board about catering for vegans – I believe Maria actually bought in some soya milk for your stay; I’m sorry there appears to have been a mix up and it never made it to you!

I hope we can welcome you back again in the future.

Best Wishes,

I never review anything. Ever. I never feel the need. However, STAY is worthy of such an esteemed review.

Upon arrival, the staff were incredibly friendly (they were also very friendly when I called ahead to ask about parking, which I will mention towards the end) and were brilliant in explaining the services provided etc.

When we eventually got to the room, an 's' which as a couple suited us well ('s' is recommended for couples, 'm' for platonic travellers), there was tea and coffee waiting for us, which was a welcome relief after a 4 hour drive.

The styling of a room was right up our street... Granted I'm a bit of a hipster, but I'm sure anybody would find it brilliant, and the cleanliness was faultless. The in-built iPod docking station was a nice touch, after all, who doesn't like music in the shower?

The hotel maid was incredibly quick, as our room had been tidied in the small space of time we had left for breakfast one morning. This does, however bring me on to the one downside of STAY, which is actually quite indirect; The Three Sisters pub which shares the courtyard and supplies breakfast to STAY guests. Whilst the breakfast wasn't terrible, it also wasn't great (I promise it wasn't due to me tasting haggis for the first time and hating it), however for £6 per head you can't really argue.

Location wise, STAY is brilliant and smack bang in the middle of old town, just off grass market. So for the guys, there's a Brewdog next door, for the girls there's shopping just over North Bridge, and for everybody else, there's Edinburgh. If you like cocktails, I'd really recommend you try out 'Under the stairs' on Merchant street!

As mentioned earlier; parking. Whilst STAY don't have their own on site parking, they do recommend an ncp parking garage at £25 per day, which is hilarious, so I'd recommend you park at the end of queen's drive, which is free.

Overall STAY is very deserving of the rating I have given it, and I shall certainly be visiting again a couple times this year, both with the lads for a messy one, and with my girlfriend for a romantic one. Thanks STAY team, you were great.

Adam.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for such a lovely review of your time with us here is Edinburgh! We really appreciate the time taken to write such a kind review.

I also love the iPod doc that can be heard in the bathroom, there is nothing better than a sing in the shower.

Looking forward to welcoming you back to Edinburgh soon,

We were welcomed by Maria, the extremely-friendly and helpful receptionist who provided us with tips on sightseeing and food. We love the simple, lively environment with games and messages by hostelites from all over the world. The size of the room and bathroom is big. Love the jars of tea bags & sugar, the coffee-maker(though we did not use it), huge TV (32-inch probably), the colourful bottles of toiletries, the large number of power points and also the "roll-up" stickers on the toilet paper rolls, how the bathroom may was rolled up instead of folded...the list will go on and on ... We shall leave the rest for your own discovery. To sum it up, next trip to Edinburgh, we will definitely opt for STAY Central again.

Had a great stay.

Great bits:
Very clean
Friendly and exceptionally helpful and accommodating staff
Best shower ever!
Brilliantly central

Not so great bits:
Joined on to a night club so gets noisy and very busy. Great for hen or stag nights
Bit of a strange lay out with steps (not so good if on crutches!)

Overall very very happy stay.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable with contempory decor. The bathrooms have a waterfall style walk in shower and there is an Ipod dock on the wall, Sky TV and a Nespresso machine! Breakfast was excellent with a great choice of cereals and full Scottish breakfast for just £6.95, which is a bargain. Do not think because it is relatively cheap that you are getting inferior rooms - you are definitely not!! Only downside is that there are no onsite parking facilities and the NCP is over £15 per day. However, if you fancy a 40 minute walk, park in zone B1 which is free (look a parking on 'West Saville Terrace')
