Arrived after a 5 hour drive from Newark upon Trent, Our Sat Nav sent us into the centre of Edinburgh (not a place to go if unfamiliar with the city), eventually got to the hotel after 45 mins of navigating the city's one way systems.

The room shown to us was too small for our party, but the front of house staff were excellent, they quickly identified another room more suitable and better located for us, nothing seemed to phase them and each request was quickly and politely met. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.

We stayed to ensure we could do the "Britannia" Royal Yacht experience and the hotel is literally just across the road from the shopping centre that provides access to the Yacht. There are plenty of resturants and eatery's close by and you are spoilt for choice in that department. A short walk in Leith and you will find many other restuarant's close by.

Breakfast was a buffet style with a good mix of food, all fresh and well presented, though the hot selection was limited, there was still plenty to eat.

All in all a great quiet place to base yourself in Edinburgh, away from the noise of the city centre, but close enough to access all it has to offer, highly recommend a stay here.

Had a great stay at this holiday inn express. The hotel serves its
purpose, and i could not find a single fault. Rooms are very
comfortable, clean and well furnished. Breakfast has a very good
selection and of a good standard. Perfect location, only a 10min walk
to the bars and restaurants in leith. Will stay again when next in area.

Stayed at the hotel with a friend for three nights. We booked the hotel online through a travel website and got a really good deal on the rooms, so I can't complain about the money. However, our flight got into Edinburgh in the early morning, and we headed straight to the hotel to drop our luggage off. When we went to the desk, the woman working said that we could store our luggage in the locked room until it was check-in time, so that we could explore the city without it. My friend who was in a boot from a sprained ankle, want to change out of the boot before storing her bag, which we told the woman. There were no other customer's around, but she made a big deal about how we were putting her out. Then she made a rude comment about how I had too much luggage (I had a medium sized suitcase and a backpack that was my carry-on from the plane -- we were in Europe for a week, so this was an appropriate amount of luggage). She kept rolling her eyes at us and telling us to hurry as she had "other customers", but there was no one in sight.

My friend and I are in our 20's, so we like to stay out late in the city, and then sleep a little later in the morning (til about 8:30 or 9:00AM). However, this was impossible in the hotel, as the 2nd floor housekeeper was banging around so much in the nearby rooms that she woke both of us up at 7:30AM on day 1 of the trip. My friend is a really heavy sleeper, so this was quite a feat. The housekeeper also did not take our trash for two days straight.

Also, our shower leaked all over the floor of the bathroom. When we reported this, they didn't seem to care.

Loved the city and people of Edinburgh, but would not recommend this hotel.

Dear AuroraJanette,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh Waterfront.

I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the service you received. I am shocked and dismayed to hear your report of your stay as we are often complimented on the friendliness of our staff and our complimentary left luggage service. Being in a popular tourist destination we have a lot of guests who arrive on early flights and trains and as a result we often offer to store guest’s luggage when it is not yet possible to check into a room. Providing consistently excellent service is very important to us and as your experience is contrary to our usual standard of service I would appreciate if you contact me directly by email so that I can investigate this matter in more depth.

I am also sorry to hear that your sleep was disturbed in the morning. As our housekeeping staff arrives for work around 8.30am and usually begin cleaning rooms from 9am I can only assume it was other guests in surrounding rooms that were making noise early in the morning. Our guests are welcome to contact reception if they encounter any such problems during their stay so that we can resolve the situation.
Thank you once again for your comments and I would really appreciate if you would contact me at gm@expressedinburgh.co.uk so that I can investigate further.

Regards,

Andrew Leonard

Stayed here with my wife for 2 nights. Staff were very helpful and we had a good room, very comfortable. Good breakfast. Surrounding area is great with plenty of pubs and restuarants nearby. There is a shopping complex across the raod. Buses are fantastic with a service every few minutes . Hotel has brochures and discount vouchers available for restuarants etc.
Would come back here.

Room Tip: ask for a high floor

Holiday Inn booking staff recommended we stay at the Leith hotel as it has free parking. It is out of the city but is very close walking distance to the Royal Yacht Britannia and the awful "shopping centre" now located in the ocean terminal building. Busses run frequently into the Castle/Palace/Royal Mile area from Leith and only took 10-15 minutes. so while location is out of the city area it is still very convenient, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and I just loved the bathroom/toilet 2 way door... Worth staying there to see it. Might be a budget hotel and look budget from the outside but don't let that scare you off, it was great.
