Deliberated over where to spend my wedding night in Edinburgh and plumped for The Prestonfield as we had been for a birthday dinner and were treated exceptionally well. We booked a room with DB & B for £195 as this was a special occasion. We arrived at the hotel just after being married and although congratulated we were not made to feel at all special no-one offered us champagne or any sort of real welcome although the very young male receptionist made comment about my choice of wedding dress which I found was quite rude and pointless. We were shown to our room and we decided to enjoy a couple of drinks in the leather room which was pleasant in front of the roaring fire. The meal at Rhubarb was very nice we then had drinks in the Tapestry Room. Breakfast was very good but as we were flying out early we were The only guests in the dining room in the morning. We did enjoy our stay but we felt the staff missed out on huge selling opportunity we were there to celebrate our wedding day but were treated like any other guests. The staff are predominantly young males who although very keen are very inexperienced in social situations and etiquette some training is definitely required. I wish I had chosen Chester Residence over The Prestonfield but I will know better when celebrating our anniversary.

From the second we arrived the staff were so friendly and helpful. We stayed in a suite which was stunning along with the rest of the hotel. We ate in the restaurant which again was fantastic. This is a great place for a get away and a treat, loved every second!

When you book Prestonfield you know it is not cheap but even so the cost can be a real issue if the accommodation, staff or meals are not quite what they should be. Basically no one likes being taken for a ride. From the minute we arrived through to our departure two nights later we could not have asked for better quality in our room from the staff or in the meals and service. Do not expect a swimming pool or fitness facilities, it is not that type of hotel. Do expect, and you will receive total personal service, staff for whom nothing is too much and excellent food. It would be wrong to pick out any individual members of staff because they were all so good.
If you are looking for a quality, qiuet place where you are exceedingly well looked after then this could be for you.

Room Tip: Remember what this hotel provides and what it doesn't.

My wife and I have just returned from a fabulous 4 night stay at this beautiful place. From checking in we were made to feel very special. We were given a room upgrade to the Churchill suite as it was our anniversary,on the provision that if the room was booked over the next 4 nights we would need to move. This was a lovely gesture and not a problem. The room was excellent, actually it was two rooms in one,on one side a double bed with gorgeous antique furniture and a large flat screen tv built into a cabinet,DVD player, multimedia connectivity,a mini bar.
In the other room was a large daybed more antiques and another flat screen tv setup, also each room had its own bathroom with wc,bath, shower etc, which was very handy. After unpacking we had afternoon tea. It was extremely delicious. Then a little rest and off to the Rhubarb restaurant for dinner. All I can say is Wow. Superb food, fantastic staff, amazing wine. The rest of our stay was more of the same. Excellent breakfasts in our room, with a huge choice on the menu. We had to be moved on our last evening to a normal room. All our stuff was moved for us. The new room was huge and just as nice as the suite,we were more than happy. A huge thank you to all the staff at Prestonfield House, especially Emma, you were all fantastic. We will be returning, hopefully in November. Thanks again.

Stayed here for one night to celebrate my birthday and managed to get a brilliant last minute rate after my original hotel let me down. There are staff everywhere at this hotel, ready to greet you, give you a tour, escourt you to reception, take your bags to the room etc. They couldn't have been any better with their service.

The room was stunning. We got a corner room with view out of two sides onto the well kept grounds. At about 3am we heard strange noises from our room, that sounded like water rushing through pipes. When it didn't stop some 15-20 minutes later I called reception who came instantly to investigate. They were prompt and apologetic. In the end they gave us the key to another room so we could sleep peacefully, but allowed us to keep our original room so that we didn't need to pack up etc before moving rooms. It was a good, fuss free resolution.

We had a few drinks in the evening and the staff were helpful in listing cocktails not on the menu and suggesting drinks to try. The hotel catered to the fact that we were having such a horrible Spring and had the log fires burning away in the reception rooms. Perfect for a cosy wind down.

The grounds are stunning, couple of peacocks walking around. Felt a million miles away from Edinburgh city despite being within a short drive of it.

Thoroughly recommend this hotel. Only downside was the noisy room but they dealt with it as best they could.

The hotel is in a strategic position, in the nature but very close to the city center (10 min by cab).
The atmosphere is very particular (lots of carpets!) and "retro' ", it's not my style but I appreciated it. The whole staff was very nice and always available, excellent breakfast.
The room was quiet big and the bed very confortable, the bathroom clean although not that big.
In general I would definately go back if were back in Edinburgh

Booked a one night stay for special treat for partner. From the moment we arrived until we left there was not one detail wrong. The hotel itself is impressive, lovely grounds and interiors to die for. The house is large but never overwhelming and you really feel at home. Our double room was simply beautiful. We had our 8 year old with us and this presented no problem, with a huge comfortable room with plenty of space and sitting as well as her super comfy camp bed. Needless to say, she was treated as well as we were and loved the gardens to explore. The constant search for the peacocks and the highland cows kept her amused for hours. She loved the croquet and mini golf.
All the rooms are simply opulent, with antiques and paintings to create an amazing sense of theatre. However, despite the grandeur of the surroundings, the house is comfortable and relaxing. The real delight is the staff, everyone is efficient and courteous. It is clear that all working at the Prestonfield take real pride in their work and as such the attention to detail shines through. It is clear that they work hard, the amount of guests at dinner in the restaurants means slick management shown but always with aplomb and dignity. We had afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast all of which were wonderful. Prestonfield House should be relished and we were given the time and opportunity to do so.
I would warmly recommend it and only wish our stay had been longer. I really have never experienced a hotel of such quality and individuality and long to return.

Room Tip: Room 12, huge double bed, small sofa, seats and two really comfy armchairs, huge TV hidden away, fir...
