Absolutely Amazing ... Exceptional in Every Way!!!

Review of Prestonfield
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 9 Sept 2016
We had the pleasure of staying at the Prestonfield House on our recent visit to Edinburgh. What a lovely property and such a surprise to see a rural setting just minutes from the heart of Edinburgh. The house and property has quite the history and was designed by William Bruce. Back in the days when it was a private estate it hosted many great thinkers including David Hume and Benjamin Franklin and more recently a number of famous politicians and celebrities.

Prior to our arrival the Concierge Services reached out to me to see if they could make any other arrangements for us. This is the first time I have experienced this. Nice touch. We arranged for a car to collect us at the airport and made a number of dinner reservations. Sam, Stewart and Natalie were of great help both ahead of our arrival as well as during our stay. Kudos to all of them, especially Natalie.

We had a pleasant ride from the airport with our driver Stewart. He's a big 49ers fan and we were really impressed by his knowledge of American football. The male staff wear kilts so it was a very pleasant Scottish welcome by Stewart at the airport.

We stayed in a Luxury Double room that was beautifully and romantically decorated with lovely furniture/artwork. There was a 47" flatscreen smart tv and the free Wifi worked great throughout the property. The bed was very comfortable so we had some great sleep while we were there. The bathroom was a bit on the smaller side. Our room was on the ground level and overlooked the nearby golf course. So be careful in the morning as you dress as we did see a stray golfer or two. We received a bottle of champagne each day during our stay. The gardens and surrounding property are beautiful and well maintained.

Breakfast was included in our rate. Our breakfasts were very good and in the elegant setting of the Rhubarb restaurant. There were great choices on the menu and something I have never seen before .... Duck Eggs Benedict! They were huge and it was very good. The juices were all fresh squeezed including the apple. There were nice pastries, fruit and yogurt. Breakfast service was very good.

One afternoon we decided to partake in our champagne outdoors in the courtyard in the garden. Natalie graciously retrieved our champagne from our room, an ice bucket and two flutes and delivered it to us outside. It was a beautiful day and a very relaxing moment.

Can't say enough about Prestonfield House. Our stay was too short and exceptional!

My wife and I recently spent a short 3 nights at the Prestonfield. What an amazing place, and what an amazing stay we had. From the time I stepped out of the taxi when I arrived, to the time I stepped into a taxi to depart, all staff members were friendly, and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed to make our stay pleasent. The hotel was beautifully decorated, and the rooms luxuriious and comfortable. The hotel itself is located just outside of the city centre, about a 10 minute taxi ride away, which we apprecicated not being around the hustle and bustle of the city center, and at night we relaxed, and took in the ambiance. Would definatley stay there again.

W didn't stay here, but attended a wonderful dinner and Scottish show. It was held in what would have been the old stables. We sampled haggis for the first time and were pleasantly surprised. The soup and dessert were okay, and the beef dish was very good.
They had 4 bottles of wine for our table of 8 people, which we enjoyed.

Amazing hotel. Very tradingtional but maintained to an excellent standard. Service and staff are a throwback to the time when visiting a luxury hotel was all about hospitality and not simply providing the latest "gadget".
Plenty of interesting things to look at inside the property with bedrooms modern in terms of facilities but with a feel of stepping back in time.
The gardens are beautful, while sitting on the roof terrace with a drink in hand takes the stress levels down 95%!
With views looking up to the Hollyrood Mount and a few minutes into central Edinburgh it really is a har one to find any fault.
If I had to make one mention then it is to keep in mind that it is more or less 2 miles to the Royal Mile and so you need a short taxi ride if you don;t want to drive into town. Otherwise, you can walk along a residential street and hop on a 10 minute bus ride straight into the centre.
As the the hotel - fabulous!

I had tried to book into the Witchery for a weekend away but disappointed to find that we had to book 2 nights at a weekend - however, they pointed us in the direction of their sister hotel, Prestonfield House.

Delighted with the decadent, over the top decor and sumptuous surroundings. Bedroom was beautiful - not big but fabulously decorated, jam packed with indulgent textures, decor and treats.

Staff were fab - we had a tour of the various drawing rooms - which sounds stuffy but weren't.

Food was fab, service excellent and discreet - lovely wee touch with a 'happy anniversary' slate and chocs at end of meal and then shown to one of the super comfy drawings for drinks.

Gardens glorious, you'd never know you were in the middle of Edinburgh!

Wholeheartedly recommend this for a chill out treat - we will definitely return!

Room tip: We enjoyed views of the gardens from the first floor

My sister got engaged and we decided to celebrate with a high tea at the Prestonfield.

It was a horrible and wet afternoon and we booked at the last minute. We were seated in a gorgeous room with a log fire in a really private corner.
It was cosy and although we were only 3 young girls we were treated with great respect and treated with care.

We had tea, coffee and cakes over a few hours while we enjoyed the special afternoon.

It really did feel special and not at all pretentious (as I had previously worried).
