We didnt exactly choose this hotel - it was more of a "this is all that is left at a reasonable price" selection as we had tickets for the Commonwealth games.
Stayed here for two nights. Shopping in Edinburgh city centre on the Saturday before checking in - the hotel is a short drive from Princes Street where we had parked the car. In hindsight we should have parked at the hotel and made our way back into town as the usual extortionate parking charges in Edinburgh were present.
We checked in around 4pm - no issues, staff were polite and friendly.
Easy access back into Edinburgh city as we had dinner plans - the number 22 bus leaves from round the corner and takes you right onto Princes Street in under 10 mins. Regular service - we did the journey to and from the hotel 4 times in total and were never waiting more than 5 mins for a bus - could be a fluke but they did seem to be very reliable.
We did not eat at the hotel however we did have a few drinks at the bar - service was good, no complaints. Bar / mini bar prices as are you would expect from a hotel, however if you grudge it, dont use it!
The room itself was nice, no air con which was a bit of a let down as it was a hot weekend, would have expected this from a chain hotel but it did cool down a lot at night so we were not put out.
Cleanliness was good, although when we arrived there was a lot of towels dumped in the hallway - may have caught the housekeeping staff at a changeover as they were gone in less than 20 mins though.

Stayed in superior double on top floor. Good size with normal amenities . As in attic the curtains let light in so need to sort blinds or face masks! Cocktails lovely although couldn't sit out after 10! Gorgeous location but over priced !

The accommodation is lovely with nice beds and a good sized bathroom. The rooms have a mini bar at the usual extortionate prices and a good quality TV with freeview. The restaurant downstairs is very pricey and I had a single course meal of sliced steak with tomato salad and a water for £37.
Nice hotel but pricey.

Four of us stayed for one night on a Sunday evening. If you enjoy the Leith area of Edinburgh then this hotel is ideally located. It has free parking and there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. Our room was small but comfortable.

The food however was a different story. We had reserved a table well in advance but as soon as we were seated we were told that FOUR items were now off the menu and that they only had one portion of beef stroganoff left. We spoke to the manageress who told us she would give us higher priced steaks instead of the usual rump steak used for "Steak Frites" which was finished. We agreed to this but the steaks when they arrived were luke warm and unappetising. One of us had the remaining portion of the stroganoff but it wasn't particularly good and another had a burger which was really poor.

Would maybe stay here again if the room rate was right but would eat elsewhere as there are far better priced restaurants with much better food in the surrounding area.

Had an overnight stay here and it was wonderful. Always wanted to stay at a Malmaison and finally had the chance in Edinburgh. Staff were wonderful, the room was amazing and the breakfast was very good. Will 100% be coming back here, I loved it!

Room Tip: Upgrade if you can as the rooms are amazing.

Got treated to an overnight stay with my sister. The minute I walked into the hotel I was completely wowed, so beautiful. The room was even better, very clean and again, beautiful. Breakfast was really nice and the staff were excellent. It does take 45 minutes to walk into Edinburgh, which in the dark was a little uncomfortable.

It is a nice hotel. Very clean and cosy room. Full equipped with mini bar and all the the necessary facilities. The wifi is fine. The breakfast buffet is good. Though is very hard to find the hotel location and is far away from city center.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
It's the mother of all Malmaison's. The former house of ill-repute now has a reputation that's second to none, and it's also just a short taxi ride away from Waverley Station. Malmaison Edinburgh bides at Leith (as they say up here), just a stone's throw from the Royal Yacht Britannia, but offering far more funky luxury. Yes, when you want exciting hotels in Edinburgh, this is the King, not the castle. Our Edinburgh hotel puts you close to all of Edinburgh's cobbled splendours, incredible shopping and famous galleries. Then it's back to Mal for Scots dining with a twist, a fine selection of single malts and mojitos in the bar and then back to the slinkiest and most spectacular rooms in the Scots capital. ... more   less
