“Lovely Hotel, Brilliant Location”
Reviewed 1 September 2014

We stayed here for two nights, the room was small and as with all Malmaison hotels you need a torch to see anything. That aside the hotel was clean and the room was well equipped and more than enough for what we needed.
I found the staff a little friendly and a bit wrapped up in themselves and a few more "Good Mornings" or "How are you" wouldn't have gone a miss but they just kept themselves to themselves.
The Breakfast was lovely, although they charge £2 to upgrade from Continental to Cooked breakfast which just seems a little pointless to me and just made me fell frustrated.
The location is great and extremely beautiful with lots of little pubs, bars and restaurants to keep you busy and only a short bus or taxi ride into Edinburgh town centre.
I would defiantly recommend this hotel if visiting Edinburgh. We thought it would be frustrating being outside of the City but it made the stay so much better having the peace quiet and relaxation of Leith Docks.

Priced v right as not in Edinburgh city although only a short bus ride to Princes Street. Buses run every 2 minutes at peak times. Hotel good overall, staff helpful and accommodating. Would stay again as great restaurants nearby

We stayed for 2 nights. The room was large and modern. Great bathroom. The location is 10 minutes from princes st on the bus and the stop is 150 meters away. Buses are every 5 minutes. If this was in the centre it would have cost twice the price. The restaurant is excellent and well worth a visit.

I expected this to be a relaxing overnight stay. Check in was fine. Took advantage of the cooked breakfast deal with free cocktail. The room was pleasant and spacious. Could locate only two electrical sockets . I was staying with my daughter so with hair dryer , straighteners, phones, I pads etc it was a challenge. The cocktail s we're lovely. We had booked a table for three for dinner. Unfortunately the table was not ready at the appointed time. They added a third chair to a table for two with the third chair being directly in the doorway. This was not a good start. The meal was ok and they did deduct the bread and two desserts from the bill but the position of the table overshadowed the evening. The waiting staff were helpful and polite and did recognise the predicament. When we went to breakfast the information re the cooked breakfast had not been communicated so yet again a mix up. The waffles were exceptionally dry. No marmalade on the table. The staff were all polite. I expected a seamless stay but little niggles eventually become disgruntlements.

Room Tip: The wifi was very good.

When you book a Malmaison hotel think you have decently high expectations and this hotel in Leigh met them.
Lovely location, very polite/helpful staff, comfy and clean rooms with all your requirements met - and a bit more...Such comfortable beds!
My only gripe is breakfast. Felt it was a little uninspired and had little in the way of a veggie option... (We DO like cooked breakfasts you know and veggie sausages etc are easily obtained!) so it felt very expensive for a couple of cooked eggs in an omelette, nice as it was!
But my husband loved his as he did a bit of (meat) swapping of the menu items to create his own breakfast and it was happily accommodated..

Room Tip: We had room 308. High enough up and at the end of the corridor so no-one trekking past at silly o...

The hotel and room were wonderful but on arrival from our room was still not ready at 3.40 however complimentary tea helped while we waited.

The receptionist explained that breakfast was not in the rate , which we disputed with another member of staff, and it was confirmed that just as we thought it was .
So to check out and we were told that we would be charged for breakfast ....had they not made a note that this had been disputed and resolved ...no
Luckily one of the staff who did remember was walking by to go off duty .
This could have easily have been resolved with attention to detail.
Excellent friendly staff , and breakfast and eggs Benedict are highly recommended !
However for our next stay in Edinburgh in November we will stay more centrally in Edinburgh

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
It's the mother of all Malmaison's. The former house of ill-repute now has a reputation that's second to none, and it's also just a short taxi ride away from Waverley Station. Malmaison Edinburgh bides at Leith (as they say up here), just a stone's throw from the Royal Yacht Britannia, but offering far more funky luxury. Yes, when you want exciting hotels in Edinburgh, this is the King, not the castle. Our Edinburgh hotel puts you close to all of Edinburgh's cobbled splendours, incredible shopping and famous galleries. Then it's back to Mal for Scots dining with a twist, a fine selection of single malts and mojitos in the bar and then back to the slinkiest and most spectacular rooms in the Scots capital. ... more   less
