Owner description: Hidden beneath the Royal Mile lies Edinburgh’s deepest secret: a warren of hidden ‘closes’ where real people lived, worked and died. For centuries they have lain forgotten and abandoned…until now. Visit Edinburgh's most famous Close, which makes Edinburgh's Hidden History unmissable.

I visited this attraction some years ago. There are now more rooms to explore. Our guide-Lowrie I believe, playing Mary Kings daughter, was inspiring. She spoke so fluently & passionately you forgot she was "in character". She absolutely made the experience come to life. The tour lasts an hour and although a little pricey you certainly come away with a vast amount of information of life over the past 400+ years. You leave paying closer attention to the small openings along the Royal Mile up to the castle, with little brass plaques naming each close. Explore these as some offer good places to eat, shop or just stand and wonder at the architecture and what it was like to live there all those years ago.

This was a very different and informative experience into how people lived in the Old Town of Edinburgh 500 years ago, presented to us by our excellent guide Chris

Myself and my mum, booked the 5:45 tour for "the real Mary king's close" with tour guide, Chris T. Chris was an impressive guide who took us back to the time in Edinburgh of when people lived, worked, and died in the now underground closes. He informed us of the history of the closes in an entertaining way, but he was also very concerned for out safety. Not only did he inform us of the history of the closes but of the ghosts behind the haunted rooms. I would recommend this tour to tourist to Edinburgh if you want a interesting but entertaining visit in Edinburgh. Thank you for this experience.

Informative and gave cool insight into Edinburgh's history as well as a tour inside an actual close. However, not worth the price paid to see the close. There are better things to do in Edinburgh.

We had a lovely guide called Chris who knew what he was talking about, very interesting and informative and was a perfect activity for what was a very rainy day! The only downside was a family who wouldn't shut up the entire way round but that's not the guide's fault, just inconsiderate and ignorant people...
