We visited this wonderful piece of history while we were in Edinburgh, it is so educational and really shows you how much of a struggle life was years ago, highly recommended.

Well layered history is a phrase I’ve heard often, but was very literally exposed to upon visiting Mary King’s Close at the recommendation of our hosts living in the area.
Kudos aplenty goes to our tour guide Tom, who was knowledgeable, erudite, engaging and evoked sympathy for both plague victims and the plastic rats who gave it to them. I’d say more about the room to cellar to room education we had in life (and death) in Edinburgh through the centuries but there’s too much to spoil here. As long as you can handle a few isolated steep angle surfaces, such as the Close itself, you’ll have an amazing time.
Let’s face it if stairs and inclines weren’t your thing you probably wouldn’t be in Edinburgh at all.

Thank Ryan L

Bethany was our guide and she was excellent. This is not a Disney like tour ; it is a tour UNDER the existing city to see how people lived in past centuries Fascinating-if you like history. My wife and 3 children were entertained and loved it.

Deffinately a must see place. So interesting how Edinburgh was. This is beneath Parliament Square, which was built over the old streets and house, entered from the Royal mile. It is not clostrophobic but my wife decided not to risk it! It can be a little tight in places but nothing to worry about, only 1 smal, room but you can look through the window if you prefer. So interesting how they lived back in the day!
