We loved our stay at the Royal Scots Club. The hotel was well-appointed, and the rooms spacious. The dining room served a full Scottish breakfast that nourished us for hours. We had no complaints and will stay again.

Stayed 2 nights b&b and had a free upgrade to a double room which was very spacious and clean. I was on top floor and there was a view towards the coast across roof tops from the huge sash window. Bed was extremely comfortable, temperature just right, very low noise levels. Breakfast was very well done - particularly liked the loch fyne kippers. Friendly reception staff, plenty of 'atmosphere' and only a short hop to the city centre

I don't want other people to know about the Royal Scots Club because it was great and if too many people like it we might not be able to find a room in the future!! Very central, a nice easy walk up to George St or Princes St, spacious, comfortable room and bathroom, great breakfast, nice surroundings, classic decor, easy to find,....what is there NOT to like!

The Royal Scots Club enjoys an enviable location just off Dundas Street in the New Town within easy walking distance of George Street and the heart of the New Town itself.

The staff are mainly very friendly, specifically in the bar, dining room and the larger gentleman who frequently works on Reception - he is charming and very keen to please. There is one frosty female Receptionist who wears glasses - we advise caution.

There is a recently installed lift which is of great benefit, however the welcome letter in the rooms in the front of the guest pack on the desk clearly dates from circa 2008 as it refers to the application for planning permission for the lift being under consideration.

A quick nudge of the divan bed revealed that the bed had not been moved and vacuumed under for an undesirable length of time. We were greeted by thick dust, loose change and a couple of Murray Mint wrappers.

The Bathroom was O.K. but didn't feel clean and provided plastic disposable cups rather than glasses which were offered on the 'in room' tray. The shower (over bath) needed a screen rather than a curtain which (as with all curtains) spends 95% of its time wrapped round you like a duvet when the shower is on.

The quality of the china and flatware which is used throughout the hotel is excellent.

The quality of the food is excellent at breakfast and at dinner - commensurate with its price. Slightly better rates of replenishment of the breakfast buffet would be welcome.

The decor of the hotel is of its type - the hotel features a very impressive entrance hall, heavy curtains, ornamented carpets and lots of wood - in short public areas are finished to a high standard. This standard however is (sadly) not maintained into the rooms which do have a feel of circa-1978 Best Western Hotel about them. For example, the rooms still feature 'made beds' rather than duvets.
