“Great location and very welcoming staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2012

A peculiar shaped building with rooms arranged eccentrically around the building. Very friendly staff and warm welcome. Slightly dated bar area and internet not available in some of the rooms which make the warm old school atmosphere seem a bit 70s! Perfect location, a little way out of the hubbub, but close enough to reach with a short uphill walk.

Location was good, very quiet! We paid 21 pounds for a Taxi from the airport to the hotel!
But you can also take the bus from the airport to downtown for about 3.50 pounds if you do not have much luggage! The hotel has beautiful furniture, paintings and has a warm feeling and
a victorian styl. The staff is very friendly and helpful, our room was very comfortable and the beds were great, the bathroom well equipped and big. This hotel has an elevator, which is great, as most of the hotels in Edinburgh do not have one! The breakfast was really good!

I found the location to be a little far from where I wanted to be: Royal Mile, Princess Street,
and the Castle. If you have a car is Ok, but if you have to walk to places may be a little far
unless you want to take the bus.

Room Tip: Quiet location, nice neighborhood!

We booked a last minute weekend over the Bank Holiday to Edinburgh and the Royal Scots Club was one of the few available hotels due to the Festival in Edinburgh. We were a bit concerned as some of the reviews weren't very good. However it worked perfectly! The room was comfortable and clean, we had a nice view from our bedroom window, breakfast was ample and all the staff were willing to help! 2 comments - 1. the shower in our room was weird - I had to get my husband to switch it on everytime - the handle is really hard. 2. distance from the main tourist sights in the old town - its a bit of a walk and not for the older people who may find it a bit challenging. Apart from that no complaints at all!

Room Tip: Take a room on the 2nd floor - there is a room they use for parties in the basement and it can get q...

We read the reviews and were a little concerned about staying here! However, it was a great place to stay for our week at the Fringe! The place was spotless and comfortable, staff were friendly and helpful - day and night. nothing was too much trouble - I got chewing gum on my trousers at one of the fringe venues and the receptionist arranged for them to be cleaned and returned the same day - great service. Our room was lovely and perfectly clean, as were the public areas. The sofas in the lounge are comfy enough to doze off on! It was unusual to have a mobile phone ban in public rooms but it was nice and quiet! Probably not the place for single people looking for a fun night out - the bar was quiet and cosy and again, staff were really helpful. We would definitely stay there again! Thanks everyone for a great stay.

Room Tip: If you don't fancy a room in the basement, which is very common in these older Edinburgh propert...

Came here with family before a wedding in Edinburgh. The hotel placed our group all over the hotel after requesting to be grouped together. I was put in a room that took about 5 minutes to get to, in the basement. It was literally like wondering through a rabbits warren just to find it, and it was all on its own, so I wasn't comfortable staying there. (Also extremely dark and dated!)

Breakfast was fine, nothing exciting. Like the other reviews said, you could get just as nice (nicer even) elsewhere a lot cheaper! Stayed for dinner one night as well, which was okay. Dress smart though!

Saying this, I complained and the receptionist was very nice and offered to show me another room that hadn't been occupied yet, one floor up, a bit smaller, but nicer furnished. Still very dark though. I'd recommend you ask for a room that actually gets some light when you book!

Location wise it is excellent, 5 minutes (10 if you don't like hills) into Princess Street. No parking during the week, but luckily we were there on a weekend and found a side street nearby to park on. Be warned, Edinburgh traffic wardens are on the ball when it comes to giving out tickets.

Overall, decent hotel, but if you're looking for somewhere modern this definitely isn't the place to go!

My husband and I held our wedding at the Royal Scots Club on 23/06/12 and I can honestly say that both the venue and all the team at the Royal Scots club were fabulous. The whole day went very smoothly- everything was organised so that we didn't have to worry about anything. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, the food very good and the Hepburn suite set up perfectly for both the ceremony and the wedding breakfast and evening do.
The rooms are perhaps pricey but well worth it as they are well presented and have lots of character and the hotel is in a great central location in a lovely part of Edinburgh. Our families booked out a lot of the bedrooms and they were all of a high standard. Breakfast was included and the full scottish fry up was great
Thanks to Lucy, Patrick and the rest of the team for helping make our wedding so special.

Room Tip: Room 16 lovely!

Group of 7 couples stayed at the Royal Scots in June of 2012. Some of our group got very nice accommodations, but a few us had rooms in the basement. Our room was a long narrow room, with a bathroom that was so small you could barely shut the door if you were in it. It had one window looking out at a below ground dirty area. The couple beside us said their windows were near garbage cans, very noisy when they were trying to sleep. The gal at the front desk was unfriendly and didn't care if we were unhappy with our room. I would rate the hotel as unfriendly. It definitely put a damper on my trip to Scotland.

Room Tip: Ask lots of questions about your room.
