The hotel situated near the new town with approximately 10-15 minutes walk from Edinburgh waverley train station.

It used to be a private club for veterans of Scottish regiments, which give it a unique atmosphere. We stayed in the standard room(15) on B1 floor, which actually not a basement. There is only 2 room in the area, which is very private and quiet. The room equiped with everything you can think of: bath tubs, molton brown shower kit, double bed, a sofa, flat screen TV, big closet, and even the iron with iron board. The room even has a small kitchen with microwave, folk & spoon, pot, and plate everything! It also has wireless internet in the room.

The breakfast was amazing! You got full scottish breakfast. They made a really nice Croissants.

Overall very pleasant stay, perfect getaways, highly recommended.

In a world of endless brown throws, chrome door handles and turquoise accents, stands this beacon of quiet, understated civilisation. Large elegant rooms with traditional brown wood furniture, firm beds, a choice of easy chairs and heavy, swagged curtains. Thick carpets muffle sounds and lend a wonderful calm. Not that they scrimp on the mod-cons, slippers, robes, toiletries, iron and trouser press. For the first time in a while I didn't have to scrabble about on my hands and knees to find a socket under a desk to plug the kettle into. Someone has clearly thought about the important details. Friendly helpful staff and a great breakfast and all in a wonderful clubby atmosphere, just a few minutes walk from the very centre of Edinburgh.

Great location. We had a lovely view of Edinburgh Castle and could easily walk to the Royal Mile for historic walks, shopping and pubs. The club itself is in wonderful condition. Very historic, staff was great, room was very nice. We had the pleasure of being there when they were having a reunion of military personnel from past conflicts to present and were able to talk to some very nice people attending the function. It was really very impressive.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of the city.

Initially it is a club, you know, the place where Lords used to spend their time. Officially the functions of a club still exist but it is basically operated as an hotel. The location is perfect. On the one hand you can see a big park, which protect the hotel from city's noise. On the other hand the opposite side of that park is Queens street, and other popular streets are quite near. There are 10 minutes on foot to Waverley station.
the rooms are comfortable and offer all necessary things. I was impressed with the breakfasts of good quality and perfect service. You can choose Full scottish breakfast there and it will be the best choice ))

Treated like royalty in this delightful hotel . Located 5 minutes walk from George Street / Princess Street this was an ideal spot for our Rugby international weekend . Rooms were spotless and staff friendly , along with hearty breakfasts . We even had the pleasure of a guided tour of this historic building , with tales and references to the many paintings and artefacts throughout . Also serves a great pint of Caladonian Best .

Room Tip: 1st floor to the front with views over Queen Street gardens

If you like old hotels you may like this but I didn't.
Why:
They vacuumed the floor above me at midnight! In a normal hotel you wouldn't hear it but here you do.
Hot water cam with an unidentified white silt in it.
Blankets on the bed instead of a duvee.
Practically no sockets in the room, and the one I found was impossible to get to.
Old - cracked paint, safe does not fit laptop etc
It is not 4 star, 3.

Pros;
Friendly staff
Good breakfast

The hotel was very well furnished and had a really good atmosphere to it! What you would expect from a hotel in the middle of Edinburgh!
Only a few minutes away from Princes Street, but still in a very quiet area.
The rooms are big and modern and nicely put.
