“Charming hotel”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

This is set in a very pretty street. The service, breakfast etc were very good. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the hotel is charming. Hubby slept no problem. If however you are a light sleeper this is not the place for you unless you can guarantee a room to the rear. The traffic noise is very loud and it is a busy city road. There was also a lot of noise from people outside. I resorted to putting the duvets in the bath and lay there for some peace!!!!

Room Tip: Friends had no problems at the rear of the hotel

We stayed at The Royal Scots Club on the first four nights of our golfing vacation to Scotland. The hotel is well staffed and well appointed. The breakfasts that were included were spot-on. This hotel is in a lovely location, across the street from a large, private park. It is easy to walk to just about anywhere you would like to go in Edinburgh--although you need to be able to walk up and down the hills of the town. We had a lovely stay here and would stay here again.

Stayed here for three nights whilst at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It worked out cheaper than staying in central Glasgow. The hotel is in a good location on a quiet street 10 minutes walk from Princes Street. Our rooms were very comfortable, spacious and well equipped. We only ate breakfast in the hotel as there are so many good restaurants within easy reach. The quality of food served t breakfast was very good. The service, however left a lot to be desired. Shortage of staff and a lack or supervision seemed to be the major problems. All things considered though I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is in a very good location and extremely comfortable. The staff are very helpful and courteous.
If I had not had an unpleasant experience at breakfast in the dining room I would have really rated it highly. The incident about the delay in service and lack of providing toast was dealt with most unpleasantly by the diningroom manager.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor and we had a lovely view of the river. It was also very quiet .

We had the most amazing wedding day at the Royal Scots Club on 25 July 2014, everything was perfect (even the weather). Ayesha Longley, Conference, Wedding and Events Co-ordinator was absolutely fantastic from the day we booked our wedding, she met up with us several times to ensure the day went without a hitch, prompt in responding to e-mails if we had any queries or looking for advice and the rest of the team at the Royal Scots Club helped to make our wedding day a very memorable occasion. The venue is superb, central Edinburgh, lovely interior for some very special photographs (Douglas Room, Library and Hepburn Suite) and access to private gardens on Queen Street for outdoor photographs. I have no hesitation in recommending the Royal Scots Club as a wedding venue and the accommodation for guests is wonderful too.

All I can say is wow. The venue itself is extremely central, but not in the hustle bustle. The building is stunning with the old Georgian look. The rooms have recently been decorated which gave it a new feel and I couldn't fault the cleanliness. Everything you could need was in the room. The food was amazing, both at breakfast (good selection) and for catering my wedding - every plate was presented the same and the food was hot. As for the staff, each and every one of them were friendly and professional. No request was too big over the weekend and they helped with every little thing. I cannot thank them enough (especially Ayesha) for what they did for us in the run up to the wedding and on the day itself. I would whole heartedly recommend them to any looking for a city centre venue.

This hotel is extremely charming, with loads of history and great traditional decor in the common areas. That being said, it could benefit from a few updates... They use actual keys rather than key cards for the rooms which we initially thought was unique and fun. As it turns out this means you leave your key with the staff each time you leave. While the staff was rather friendly, occasionally this was uncomfortable as they were very aware of our comings and goings and would make comments. Also if there was a queue at the front desk (as only one person works at a time) we waited upwards of five minutes or so just to retrieve our key. After a long day with loads of walking sometimes you just want to go straight to your room and lay down.

On this note, there are no "Do not disturb" signs in the rooms. After being jet lagged and exhausted from exploring the city we were looking forward to sleeping in. This was nearly impossible. Around 9 am the house keeper knocks very loudly, this could easily be avoided with a simple sign on the door. This happened anytime we were in our room past 9. One particular day the housekeeper knocked very lightly and before I could respond she was entering our room. There was very little privacy or anonymity at this hotel. This could be a great place to stay for someone traveling alone on business, but as a couple on vacation we felt pretty uncomfortable.
