Really enjoyed this hotel - it's a great location, you can walk to all of the main sights in Edinburgh (get ready for some hills!). Our room was on the top floor so there are a LOT of stairs - but it's a big old staircase in a historic hotel/house, so it didn't bother me, it fit with the character of the place.
Our room was small but very clean and well decorated. Nice marble bathroom with a big bathtub great for soaking after all that hill-walking!
Very friendly staff. Keep in mind you're in a private members club, so some nights there are lots of members in the bar/lounge drinking ... and the dining room requests that men wear jackets (though they don't seem to enforce this over breakfast, thankfully!).
Breakfast was OK if you like smoked salmon or an English fry-up. Not many options other than that.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend and would stay there again while in Edinburgh.More
