“Average hotel in a Great Location”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

To the point - I found the hotel lacking somewhat given that I had paid £270 for 2 nights. Although the blurb stated that some rooms have a view of Princess Street - most don't. We had a great view of a fire escape. The first floor room was a good size, very clean, the bed very firm and overall the room was noisy from the sound of drunks in the street. Not a great combination for quality of sleep. On the first night there was no hot water in the room. We paid the extra £11 for breakfast as it was not included in the rate. Don't buy the breakfast as it is luke warm poor quality food heaped up on a buffet and there are lots of places nearby that would be a better option. Given how poor it was I didn't use the restaurant. There is no doubt that the hotel is in a great location close to Waverley Station at the top of Princess Street and a short walk from the Royal Mile. But there are plenty of others and I'll try one of those next time.

Great location, just in a couple of minutes from the rail station. It is licated in the main street which is ideal. Nice breakfast, but not full range of selection. very nice and helpful personal, very poor lightening in the room. Th price is expensive for this kind of hotel.

The hotel is in a great location, four min walk from train station and in the very heart of the city centre. Certainly no problem getting to all the usual tourist sites from here.
The trade off is it is noisy at night, the street behind is a joy for bar hounds and foodies (as I am!) as it has pubs and restaurants galore, this does lead to noisy punters leaving there late in the evening. Double glazing would be an option?
The old lady could do with a refit but still comfortable enough. Value for money if you get a last minute deal. All in all a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Any one with double glazing!!

I would recommend the hotel to any of my friends travelling to Edinburgh. The location is fantastic, the room (608) was really nice and has a great view from the window over looking the Scots Monument and the old town. The bathroom was massive and very modern, the only down side was we had no hot water the the shower head but plenty in the bath but we were assured that this was a temporary problem and was going to be fixed soon.
The only other begative thing about the hotel was the steps up to reception but as soon as they heard us struggling with our cases the porter come down and took them for us. I will definitely be returnnig to the hotel and would happily recommend it.

Room Tip: TRy and get at the front of teh hotel and a high floor for the best rooms and best sleep.

Another superb review for the Old Waverley and my thanks to this guest for such a positive recommendation. Apologies for the slight inconvenience with the lack of hot water - we did have a technical issue with one of our boilers which required the purchase of a new unit which was swiftly done!

This hotel is in a great location, but could do with a little upgrade, the staff are very friendly and helpfull. Would cetainly recommend this hotel to people and stay here again myself....The only downside really was the steps before you get to reception, but there is a little button to press for service :)

We booked this hotel as it is very close to the train station and found it convenient and close to the city centre and the Royal Mile. Loved the old world charm that suited the location perfectly. Yes, being in the heart of the city it was noisy but we closed the drapes and slept quite well but I would imagine that it is not for the light sleeper. It is also expensive and any request will cost extra (changing from a double to a twin was expensive and breakfast, wifi are not included in the room costs). Paying a deposit per person for damages before staying was something I've never had to do before and I was accidently charged for my upgrade twice by the receptionist who requested a copy of my credit card transactions (which I don't take on holiday with me) before she would believe the email receipt I had printed that stated that I had paid by phone although the manager remedied this quickly. The room was large, clean and very comfortable and it was a lovely place to relax after touring the city and have a cup of tea and shortbread biscuit.

We were really looking forward to this stay but frankly were a little disappointed. Thin walls, small rooms, had to literally climb to get into the bathtub. It was a great location though.

Front desk was average...just a very old hotel
