Went here as part of Christmas present,it was definitely Downton Abbeyesque - classy, clean and very comfortable. Staff were very nice. Dinner and breakfast were very good, a bit more choice for vegetarians might be an idea. Loved the homely lounge areas.

Good stuff:
- Located in a quiet residential area, like staying in a private home
- The furniture is Downton Abbey-style
- I borrowed an adapter for charging my phone for free
- Over-friendly staff

Not so good stuff:
- My shower took ages to get hot
-The breakfast was OK, but not fantastic (maybe because I stayed there Saturday-Sunday?)
- No minibar

Got a deal on itison for this lovely hotel. The room was smallish but perfect and had an amazing jacuzzi bath. The room and the hotel in general had a really cosy and luxurious feel and look. This is one if the nicest hotels I've stayed in!

As dinner was include in the deal the menu was very limited but the food was delish. Only negative point was that as dessert wasn't included my hubby ordered some cheese and biscuits for a £7 supplement. He waited over 30 minutes for them and only got them when he reminded the staff. Out came 6 small biscuits and 1 rather small slice of blue cheese. That was disappointing but in no way hindered our stay, in fact I would be happy to stay here time and time again!

Channings is subtly situated on a typical Edinburgh terrace. It has a snug and comfortable feel as soon as you walk in the front door.

What was the nicest part of the stay was the friendly nature of all the staff and as a business traveller the hotel gave a warm and welcome feel away from home.

Breakfast was good and the staff were prompt and attentive.

Room Tip: You should ask for a room facing north as you don't get much of a view out the back.

Well done to the staff at Channings for making my mother's 90th birthday bash so enjoyable. Dining room was warm and comfortable, food was lovely and service charming and efficient, despite us running late to start with. All ages, from 3 months to 90 accommodated for!

I recently stayed at Channings for three nights whilst in Edinburgh on business. Having stayed in lots of 'Corporate Boxes' I long for hotels with some individuality. Channings certainly offered that. The hotel is in keeping with its Georgian past, making the most of the grand proportions yet offering privacy in little corners and sitting rooms, most with open fires. The bar and restaraunt are excellent offereing a good range of Celtic produce (and they are both used by the local neighbours), the Scots now a good thing when they see it.
My room was lovely, large beds, a dressing room and huge bathroom with all the mod cons you could want. (I didn't get chance to use the whirlpool bath though)
The staff were friendly, most of them locals, and they couldn't do enough for you. All in all, a very pleasant stay. I'll be booking in every time I'm in Edinburgh
