Our group of 22 stayed in the Edinburgh Macdonald Holyrood for three nights and had an outstanding experience. Hot breakfasts, excellent service, helpful staff, and great rates. Plus we were within steps of the Holyrood Palace and King Arthur's Seat. This was the best property we stayed at on our travels through the UK.

the hotel was brilliant, we had a great time.
it was about 10-15 walk to the center of things. It had bus stop out side the door and taxi cost about £4 from pubs and clubs at night.
very quiet area so no noise at night.
small piano bar in reception area.
Staff were really helpful and advised us on places to eat, organised bus trips and taxi's.
breakfast was fantastic, full Scottish hot breakfast, with choice of cerals, pastries, juices etc. Plenty to get you started for the day.

we like another reviewer had booked with lastminute's secret hotels and when we read the reviews for the hotel we were really pleased but when we arrived at the hotel it was even better than we had expected, the staff from checking in at front desk to house keeping who had to chase after us when we left because we had left a bag were brilliant the only problem we had was that we had only booked one night !!
We will definately return and we can recommend this hotel to anyone

Absolutely lovely hotel, in a lovely quiet position next to the Scottish Parliament and Our Dynamic Earth. It's in a quiet street, off Market Street. It's hilly and about five minutes walk to either Waverley Station or the shops. We had fantastic service whilst we were there and would definitely recommend this hotel for an extremely quiet break in a lovely hotel.

We booked this hotel with lastminute.com on their Top Secret Hotels. We had half board which was more than enough food fo even big eaters. One draw back was that we stayed for 4 nights & the Menu was the same every night although you had a choice of 4 meals on each course. We asked the Head waiter if we could have a different meal & he obliged via the chef. The staff were very friendly & the rooms were clean.A 4* hotel which lives up to its rating.

I got married in Edinburgh in December 2007. Our family and friends from England, Canada and France stayed at the McDonald Holyrood. The stay was perfect. The rooms were a very good size, clean, and the staff was phenomenal. The breakfast was fantastic and a great way for our group to gather on a morning without much planning. The hotel spa did an excellent job on our make up for the big day, and were able to refer us to a nearby salon (hard to find in Edinburgh on a Sunday at Christmas time) and arrange the booking for us. From the moment we booked the hotel to the time we checked out, the staff went above and beyond to help us during our stay. I am not usually one to rave, but this hotel was wonderful!

Got a very good rate direct with hotel for a couple of nights. Treated ourselves to an Executive Suite (actually I was in a rush and pushed the wrong button when booking, but so be it). Room 400 had double aspect windows to the side and front of the hotel and provided a great view of King Arthur’s seat which was beautiful. Room was large (7m square + bath and small passage way) which was again very nice. Rather outdated television together with remote held together with selotape seems a little strange. Room was clean and comfortable with enormous bed. Bathroom was fine as well. Breakfast was included in our deal and as other have said provided a large choice with good food all served with a smile. I was however annoyed when our cooked breakfast arrived within 5 minutes of us ordering when we had only just got started eating our cereals, yoghurts etc from the buffet. Did east in the restaurant in eth evening but seemed more popular that suggested by previous reviewers. They seemed to have changed the pricing and now offer a 3 course set meal with plenty of choice for £25 per head. Much better idea. My wife had a 1.5 hours “treatment” involving hot stones and a massage (sorry don’t know the name) which she said was amongst the best she had experienced anywhere which is high praise indeed. All in all a good location and would certainly return at the right rate.
