We stayed here for four nights during our recent trip to Edinburgh. We know Edinburgh really well and we wanted to stay in Bruntsfield as it is one of our favourite locations in the city. The staff were really friendly, the room was quite big and although fairly 'normal' we felt really comfortable in it. Breakfast was great - wide variety of things on offer and the breakfast room was nice. Most of all however we liked being in Bruntsfield - on the morning we left, after packing everything in the car we went for a final walk around Bruntsfield Links.

We stayed during the Festival and it was a little too far away to be able to walk in to the events. But it is comfortable although being old the floors are none to straight so you do tend to feel you have had too much to drink at times! Our bathroom floor was so sloping that you got thrown towards the door. But both the shower and the bath were straight so quite usable.
The bed was large but with just one quilt - and it being very warm - we ended up on either side of the bed with the quilt in the middle. 2 quilts would be preferable even though it is a Ultra King size bed.
The breakfast was good, but a bit slow. We ordered 2 boiled eggs each, but got just one and then had to wait for the second. But as we did not have any time constraints (no train or flight to catch) it was not too bad. But remember to give yourself enough time if you have a taxi waiting to take you to airport or station.
Restaurant was nice, but did not have a huge menu. Service was with a smile though. Food was nice enough.
If we come again during the festival we will probably not stay here but instead search out a hotel nearer the city. All hotels increase their prices during festival/tattoo time so getting something cheap is hard anyway, so you may as well be closer to the happenings.

The hotel comes with little fanfare, and is quite modest at first blush. Our room didn't have a fridge or air conditioning (didn't need the latter even staying in late July--used the stand-up fan that was provided). The hotel, however, exceeded expectations. The room was large and clean with huge windows, and faced the links which are pretty to look at. The bed was very comfortable. The service from the front desk, manager, to the restaurant on the ground floor was exceptional. The building interior was byzantine-like, which added to the quiet historic charm of the experience. Was nice to come back to the room after a long day of work/touring. I would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the front where the windows are huge and the room is very bright

Stayed here for a night with a colleague during the Fringe Festival - so rooms at a premium and hard to find! The hotel was a short taxi ride (less than £6) to the city centre and hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room was clean and good size for a twin- spacious enough to share with a colleague. Breakfast was quick and fresh. Lobby was clean and the sofas and local information were plentiful.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor and there was a bit of 'hotel' noise- doors opening, water etc...

I stayed just one night in this hotel during the Festival. I asked for a quiet room and they gave me a very nice and very silent room on the ground floor. Breakfast was strangely excellent - strangely, because the individual items were just the things you normally get in a fry-up, and yet each one tasted *really* good. Beyond that, staff were very helpful, the bed was comfortable. I was genuinely delighted with my stay and would certainly stay again if I was in Edinburgh.

Room Tip: My ground floor room, No 15, was nice and quiet!

This was the first hotel we stayed in while on a tour of Scotland and northern England. It was by far the best in every way. The location was an easy walk through a park across the street to the Edinburgh Castle. The room was comfortable, the bed was perfect and the towel warming rack was a new experience. The dining experience was delicious. Breakfast had more choices than I could graze through in the five nights we stayed. I especially enjoyed the self-serve espresso machine. Every dinner entree was delicious but especially the steak. I especially appreciated the attentive staff who made our introduction to Scotland a joy and our stay most comfortable. We will come back again for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and this is where we will stay.
