“Kindness in our darkest hour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

My review is unusual this time. On February 13th my husband and I arrived in Edinburgh for a romantic Valentines weekend. On arrival that night we were warmly welcomed, shown around, given Breakfast times and of course shown to our room, which was clean, tidy, and though not large had everything we needed. Everything from what we could see on arrival was within walking distance and we were at the heart of beauty and history in the area we had chosen to stay.
The following morning our world changed for ever when we received a phone call to say our beautiful 19 year old son was killed when his car crashed on his way to work. The staff and management stepped in immediately and within moments had hot tea and coffee for us, and began to not only ask what could they do, but research flights home, helping to pack up our belongings and have a taxi waiting outside to get us to the airport as fast as possible. They were so respectful, supportive, helpful and kind- and in truth we were strangers yet they reached out quickly, professionally, supportively and helpfully. So though we did not experience more than a warm welcome, a very comfy bed, a tasty breakfast served by friendly staff, I can say that when we were in the throws of chaos, sadness, devastation, confusion, numbness and shock the staff stepped in as if they knew us for years, helped and showed warmth, support, kindness and understanding in ways that were above and beyond I imagine any training ever given- We thank the hotel, staff and management and if you want a beautiful place to stay, in the heart of historical Edinburgh we recommend Parliament House Hotel- some day we will find the strength to return and thank in person and find the courage to enjoy the sights of Edinburgh

Located right at the base of Calton Hill and within a 10-minute walk of Waverley Station. Parliament House is a good base for seeing the sites in Edinburgh. The room was clean, quiet and well-appointed.

Our only problem with this hotel was finding it - we struggled up the very steep Calton Hill from Leith Street and walked right past it - luckily a friendly local advised us to turn around and there it was - my advice is to approach it from Waterloo Place. After that minor glitch everything was perfect - lovely rooms, friendly helpful staff and a satisfactory breakfast - although we did feel that the continental breakfast could have been included in the price of the room. Having just read some other reviews I'm surprised to read that there is no lift - that is not true - the lift to our rooms was in perfect working order - although I was happy to use the stairs. This should be corrected as it will put people off.

The location is perfect - handy to all attractions and the bus to the Royal Yacht and Botanic Gardens. Playhouse and John Lewis just down the steps and lots of places to eat close by. We really enjoyed our stay and will certainly consider it for further visits.

Nice touch was sharing the room with Greyfriars Bobby - if only all dogs were as quiet and well-behaved!

Room Tip: Our rooms 403 & 405 were very quiet - no traffic noise - obviously I can't comment on any ot...

I was in Edinburgh for a long weekend away with my boyfriend and was charmed by this centrally located historic hotel. We stayed in room 15 on the top floor, which had an amazing view over the sea coast and some historic parts of the Old Town. Within walking distance to Edinburgh's main attractions, this is the perfect home away from home. Just have in mind that the hotel does not have an operating lift but it'll keep you in very good shape!

I'd definitely recommend staying at the Parliament House Hotel because of its unique location, comfort and great value for money.

Room Tip: Room 15 - top floor corner room - great view, quiet.

We had high expectations but left feeling very disappointed.

To start with, the double bed in our room was just 2 singles pushed together. I can understand if this was a room sometimes used as a twin, but it was in a double bed frame. Made our night sleep very uncomfortable as it made the balance uneven

The room was really hot with bed facing the windows so we had light coming in too even when the curtains were closed.

Finally when we arrived the lady on reception said 'you can have breakfast till 1030'. After paying a decent amount to stay there we were very surprised that they then try and charge 12 pounds extra each for breakfast!

Breakfast is kinda good, considering the fact that I stayed at Novotel before. Rooms are generally not too big, but also, not small. It is cozy and nice, clean and the staff is always more than ready to support you in all your needs. Although I rate it as a 4 star hotel, the staff managed to find me a fan, once the room was really hot and as even by opening the window it was still a little bit hot, they somehow, managed to make it! Do not recommend for those who have problems on the knees or to climb streets, once there is NO elevator in the hotel (just an old and really fancy one but that works only for pictures if ya want!) so all you ways to your room must be made by going up the stairs and the street which is also on a street that goes way up a little bit but nothing too rough.

Room Tip: Ask for a fan in the reception if you are the type of person that likes a cool place!

Stayed here during a business trip to Edinburgh. What I like about this place is its originality - it's certainly not one of your standard chain hotels. This historic hotel is also superbly located at the foot of Carlton hill, towards the end of Princes street.

A word of warning though - my room wasn't serviced by an elevator. And it's not the most comfortable hotel you'll find, it is kind of old-fashioned.

But I'd rather take originality and character over convenience and practicality!
