“Excellent Location And Value”
Reviewed 1 October 2009

Stayed for three nights in September. This is one of the best Ibis I have ever stayed in - I was actually amazed at how great it was. The entire hotel was spotless. Bathroom was fine (no sink overlap with shower problem as in other properties) and the shower was hot and powerful. Standard Ibis furnishings. Good internet connection in-room, but you pretty much need to buy the 10 pound all access for movies and internet deal if you need it for more than an hour or so. There are also computers in the lobby that you can use for a pound per half hour. Location was great - right off the Royal Mile, 10 minute walk to the castle, 10-15 minute walk to the train station. There are bars, restaurants, and cafes everywhere. We had a room in the back and no noise problems, can't say the same would be true in the front (the bars spilled out in front until very late). Just an incredible value. Will definitely stay here again!
Highly recommend the Mary King's Close and Caddies & Witches Tours!

This hotel is located right in the center of Old Town. Everything is in walking distance - Edingburg Castle 1 km - Royal Mile 20 m - Mary King´s Close 500 m - Ghosttour meeting point 20 m - Starbucks Coffee 20 m.
The hotel staff is very friendly and the hotel has a clean and modern atmosphere.
If you are a light sleeper - ask for a room pointing away from Hunters Scuare it can be a bit noisy at night.
The hotel offer a breakfast buffee - okay - but nothing special.
My advise to you is to see the Castle and also Mary King´s Close (an acient street under the city). The ghosttour is a very nice and exciting trip - do it!!
Best restaurant = Garfunkels (just beside Starbucks)
Best pub = The Mitre (about 50 m from the hotel to the right on Royal Mile).

This is a basic hotel with no frills, but it was very clean and you can't beat the location, right in the middle of the Royal Mile and within walking distance to everything, including Waverley train station and all bus stops. The room was small to average, but not cramped. Windows opened for fresh air, towels were surprisingly thick and the room was spotless all 4 days we were there. The front desk staff was exceptional. There are 2 computers in the lobby, 20 minutes for one pound (compared to 15 minutes for 3 pounds at the Marriott). We asked for extra pillows and towels and were given them promptly, with no questions. The only negative thing (and it wouldn't stop us from staying there again) was the bed was a not-very-thick mattress on a wood slab. We sat down really hard on the bed the first day and were stopped short by the hardness of the bedframe. But we were so tired at night that it didn't bother us.

The Ibis is an excellent value for what you get and we would defintely stay there again, if visiting Edinburgh. Also, next to it is a restaurant called CREELERS -- we had a delicious meal there and a local guide also told us that it was a very good restaurant.

I stayed at the Ibis hotel in Edinburgh for one night. The location is perfect - directly on the Royal Mile in the heart of Edinburgh. The castle and many stores are within walking distance.

Our room was clean, but it could need some refurbishment. Parking is not provided by the hotel, but you can park your car nearby in a parking garage.
The breakfast was ok - continental, nothing special. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

All in all a good, clean Ibis hotel perfectly located in the heart of Edinburgh.

Upsides: Big and nice double room, clean and modern facilities.

Downsides: Breakfast is OK but not included (+5.5 pounds per person per day). LAN internet connection (no WiFi) available, but not included either (+9,99 pounds per day).

*The hotel is only 2** but definately deserves 3!!!
*VERY NICE STUFF, especially Lukasz and Ryszard!!! at Front Desk
*Breakfast was fantastic
*Rooms clean, nice, ours was a bit dark as sort of in the corner, but nice, only batroom was quite small with no tub - only shower, very nice and strong current, we thought the bathroom floor should be tiled maybe.
*Everything new and perfect though
*Internet in the room (on Tv, plasma tv's btw)
*Anything you need
*Location - u can't find better one!!!if u had a room facing Hunter's Square - u could easily not come out of it - the best street performences would come to u :D

Over my travels, I have come to rely on budget chains such as Citadines, Ibis, Travelodge etc as they have been consistent throughout my various trips in various cities.

The Ibis Hotel in Edinburgh is exactly what I have expected. Location is excellent. Just off the royal mile in the Old Town and five minutes off the train station, 10 minutes to Princes Street . It's practically in the centre of EVERYTHING. Lobby bar was undergoing renovation, but it didn't affect our stay much, as we were out most of the time. Didnt hear any renovation noise in the room, but at night we could hear some of the people walking and talking on the streets. Room was basic, but sufficient, as we were just in the room to rest and shower.

Would recommend this for the budget traveller looking for a place to rest at night.
