My husband and I spent a 3 night stay at this hotel in Edinburgh as my nephew was getting married at the hub and it was their chosen accomodation for the wedding party. Our City room had a sideways view of the castle and was a very central location for everything that we needed during our stay, including a ghost walk.
As a coeliac, requiring a strict gluten free diet, I found the restuarant very helpful. My breakfast included gluten free cornflakes and bread and for dinner on our first night the chef was very helpful in providing dishes that were suitable for me to eat safely.
The bonus was that we found a gluten free pizza house (Mamma's) at 30 Grassmarket, just across the road. We did find the bedrooms a bit too hot (maybe after the very cold spell in London) but were able to turn the heating off. Adding on the flights, airport parking, accomodation and food costs for 4 days it was comparable with a cheap week in Spain, but I'm glad we went as I was so impressed with Edinburgh.

Went for new year in Edinburgh and enjoyed the stay. Hotel was in great location - so central and Grassmarket is a great place to be based as has everything within the square. We liked the hotel but the room wasn't fully prepped for three of us when we arrived. We had asked for an extra bed to be put in the room, and it was a broken camp bed, so we asked for another and again that was broken! Otherwise was good and would stay again.

Stayed here on an expensive 3 night New Year break. The location of the hotel on the Grassmarket is grand and its an easy walk to all the sights round the castle.

The hotel was fine - staff however were fairly average. If you have a car parking is a real problem. They had cordoned off the small car park next to the hotel for staff use (although sign said for disabled guests - our room overlooked the car park) The Apex International 100 yds away had no spaces and we arrived at the check in time. We were forced to park at Castle Terrace - 1/2 mile away at a cost of £60 - worth adding this cost to the cost of the break.

To add to the check in indifference - I let my wife check in while i searched for car park - she struggled with two cases and coats to the room on 3rd floor. Check in's offer of help? - a shrug - "sorry very busy".

Not what you expect from the Scottish Hotel Group of the Year award in 2004 - then again it was 2004 - six years to rest of some laurels.

Booked this hotel for a weekend trip to Edinburgh, we arrived after an early start from home and arrived at the hotel at 11 am, went to leave our hand luggage only to be told we could check in straight away, good start.
Castle is only a short walk away up several flights of steps for the shortest route. You get a good view of the castle from Hotel; Grassmarket where the hotel is located is a nice place to start your exploring of this pleasant city and it’s got lots of places to eat but it can get a bit noisy when the pubs shut.
Would stay there again.

The location for this hotel is great and the room was decent - not outstanding but clean and a good size. You can also use the facilities at the International hotel which is just down the road - it would have been useful if they'd told us this in advance as they have a gym and a sauna etc in the other hotel. The Steak & Mussels restaurant down the road was also great!
