We booked our stay at this B&B after looking at dozens of options. Booking was easy and there were no problems until we arrived with luggage in tow to learn that our room had been given to a guest wanting to extend their stay and we were promptly ushered across the street to a "comparable" B&B. The proprietor insisted he had attempted to reach us, but neither of us had received a call even though Allison House was given both home and cell numbers when the room was booked.
The B&B in which we stayed did not have Internet access that we required (Allison House does), which forced us to locate the nearest library and use the computers and Internet access there (for a fee). Also, the proprietors of the B&B where we ended up were away and a relative was left tending the business.

Stayed at the Allison House last month. what can I say, the room was lovely and spacious and appeared to be recently refurbished, it even had a flat screen TV and DVD player, though I found there was plenty to do in the city so I didnt use them once.

The owner David was fantastic and helped us arrange taxis and even recommended Restaurants and things to do.

I was amazed by the range of breakfast choices available! I can recommend the Allison Grill, though for the more health conscious (my wife!) there was an array of fresh fruits, breads and cereals.

Over all I cant fault this lovely little Hotel. It exceeded all our expectations!

My husband and I discovered the Allison House Hotel about 18 months ago while searching for a small reasonably priced hotel near the city centre to spend a theatre week-end break for us and six friends. Allison House Hotel more than filled the criteria. They book and collect our theatre tickets (best seats) our taxi, and recommend good restaurants. The hotel has a homely feeling with very comfortable bedrooms decorated with a Scottish touch and every mod. con. you would ever need - including a "wee dram" waiting as a welcome.
Kept best for last - breakfast. Excellent. Good choices, well presented and very tasty
We have no hesitation in recommending the Allison House Hotel to any visitor to Edinburgh. It's on the main bus route to the city centre with buses running every few minutes. We find it just perfect. We have now spent 4 or 5 week-ends there now and look forward to a further 2 in the next couple of months
Just a little P S We appreciate and admire Mr Hinnrichs floral display at the front of the hotel. His hanging baskets and tubs are always beautiful and his back garden is a delight to the eye - and of course our blethers with Mrs Hinnrich - we enjoy.

We had a lovely weekend stay at this quaint hotel. I was quite worried after seeing some of the other reviews but we were very happy with it. Its more like a large guesthouse than hotel though. We had a lovely room (room 12) on the top floor with a view out over Edinburgh. The room itself was big enough with lovely navy and green tartan curtains and bedspread. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom facilities were fine. The breakfast was very good and the staff were nice and friendly. The only negative would be that it is a bit outside the city centre-you would have to get a bus/taxi in and out, but there is a frequent bus service right outside the front door.

I visited this hotel as part of a family group to attend the Playhouse showing of Mama Mia. The staff were friendly - telling us best places to visit etc; the rooms, although small, were clean and well eqipped and the location was fabulous. Breakfast had choices that suited us all including the vegetarians. Best of all were the theatre tickets included in our weekend break price - we couldn't have wanted better tickets. For once when advertised as "the best available", they really were. We're all looking forward to returning and I would urge others to do the same.
