Stayed here on a recent trip to look up family connections in the Edinburgh area. A nice friendly little Guest House with parking and on a very well served bus route into the city centre. The best part of staying here is the breakfast, an array of fruit, cereals and cooked items that puts many more expensive hotels to shame! The top floor room was fine and had comfortable beds but there was only one drawer and a very small wardrobe to put your stuff in. The ensuite shower and toilet was very cramped and the shower lacked any decent water pressure. Otherwise it did the job. The staff were all very helpful and happy to organise bus tickets and travel info. The welcome drink in the room and is a nice touch as is computer/wifi access.

A great little guest house - more high-end B&B than hotel really. Off street parking and walkable from the Old Town. Brilliant breakfasts. Friendly people. We visit Edinburgh quite often and always stay there

Room Tip: Try to get rooms at the back that overlook the lovely garden.

Stayed here from 20th till 24th room 7. Felt this this for the money was excellent. Good base parked car up and never moved it till we left. Busses right out side the door. But we walked to town every day. Never really met the owners, but the staff we meet were very good.......recomend a stay here...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights in May and were both very impressed with Allison House Hotel, the staff and the facilities. We enjoyed a cooked breakfast both mornings which was prompt and delicious, with many other options readily available for those after something lighter. Whilst I agree with many other reviewers that the rooms and bathrooms are slightly dated, they are clean, comfortable and the hotel has a certain charm which added to our enjoyable stay - the complimentary decanter of whiskey was a lovely touch. The location is fantastic, buses are very regular from outside the hotel and only 5 minutes to town, at only £3.50 for a day pass it is definitely worth while getting. As students we thought overall the hotel was very good value for money and cannot understand the reviews which claim otherwise, Edinburgh is a popular destination with tourists and the hotel prices reflect this, with this in mind Allison House offers fantastic value for money and we would definitely stay here again - lovely weekend!

I stayed two nights here when visiting for a reunion. Perfectly adequate establishment, bedroom etc clean and comfortable, but overall, not particularly exceptional, apart from a rather good breakfast. The Continental version had loads of fresh fruit, croissants and rolls which were an excellent substitute for a cooked meal, although that was available too, and fairly good. Didn't feel it was a 'home from home' though, although the owners, on the two brief occasions that I saw them, were pleasant and helpful. I'm sorry to sound picky, but I have stayed in some wonderful B&Bs with that little bit extra something, and for far less money too, so this was average in comparison.

Room Tip: You are going to have to climb a fairly steep set of stairs for nearly all the accommodation and the...

We stayed here 2 nights while we explored Edinburgh. The room wasn't the best but we couldn't complain. It was a little bit old-fashioned. The breakfast was excellent. Before engish breakfast there was a choice of fruits, croissants, hot buns and cereals. You must be carefull with your bill because we were asked to pay 270 pound instead of 170. But after all it ended well.

Great stay here. Staff friendly, absolutely fantastic breakfast. Ten minutes on the bus to city centre and busses every couple of minutes. Room ok size (small twin on the top floor). Reasonable value for money in line with hotels of a similar nature in similar locations.
