I had a wonderful time at Kingsway Guest House. I picked it because it was Rick Steve's recommended and they offered a single-guest discount. I'm so happy I stayed here.
The room was a good size and very nicely decorated, the bathroom was pristine, and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was decent; not fabulous, but satisfying. The bathroom was ensuite, and although it was small, it was well laid out and didn't feel cramped. It was also so clean, it felt like I was the first person to use it. The room had a medium sized TV and dvd player, so the night I stayed in, I took advantage of the house's ample dvd collection.
The owners are very nice and seem committed to environmentally friendly practices. They also have a useful notebook in the room of nearby restaurants and shops, activities, a map, and helpful information.
The location is very good. It's on a quiet street, no noise at night, but is walking distance to the center of town and Holyrood Park. There are several bus stops less than a block away. The neighborhood felt very safe and I didn't feel uncomfortable walking back late at night.
I can't wait to come back! Also, for anyone traveling to Edinburgh with a smartphone, try the EdinBuss app, it was a lifesaver (I learned about it from the notebook in my room).
Thanks, Gary and Lizzie!More
